Too cheap for a wireless card

I have no idea how to set this up, or if it's even possible.

So my shitty old desktop (a compaq, like four years old) doesn't have a wireless card and rather than buy one I was curious if it'd be possible to use my house mates laptop (he's running unbutu) as a router. There's a way for me to just ethernet these puppies together right?

Right?

Windows internet sharing wizard in XP should allow you to do it.

I warn you some one will have to hold my hand through this, I'm not really the type to trouble shoot network stuff.

Internet sharing wizard? Where the hell is that?

Its official name is Internet Connection Sharing. I've never used it, but Microsoft has a page about it here.

I believe the following should work:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=91370

    Then to make it permanent:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=300142

And no offense to the OP, but if you're unfamiliar with Windows networking, linux might be difficult to jump into. You might want your roommate to use the guides above.
