So I just walked into my local music shop to see that portishead has popped out another album. Why didn't anyone tell me? For those of you that don't know Portishead....
Portishead are an English trip-hop group from Bristol, named after the nearby town of the same name, 13 km (8 mi) west of Bristol.
The band was formed in Bristol in 1991, by Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley. Previously, Barrow had been working as a tape operator (including work with Massive Attack and Tricky), Gibbons was singing in pubs, and Utley had played jazz guitar for Big John Patton and The Jazz Messengers. The trio created the short film To Kill a Dead Man, which was heavily inspired by espionage films, and its accompanying soundtrack persuaded Go! Beat Records to sign the band.
So, has anyone else heard this new album? I am listening to it now, and it's pretty dang good. Anyone fans of portishead here? Is there any bands like them that you may want to share?
Nice big band, I like. Not so sure about the lead singer though, maybe I will listen to some more of their stuff later when my boss leaves the office in a few hours.

I have heard the name. Never the music. I sampled that video for about a minute this morning, but the boss man walked into my office and is currently sitting at the front of my desk gabbing on his cellphone to his wife.
MSG TO BOSSMAN:
PLEASE LEAVE NOW.
You spend two hours a week actually on site at the shop, any other time you are on your motorcycle doing "customer relations" why did you have to choose now to spend those two hours, and why me? GO AWAY!
I absolutely adore Portishead. Strangely though, I've never felt saddened or depressed at their music like other people. It's very mellow and melancholic, but I don't get why people associate it with "oh you're listening to Portishead? are you suicidal?"
The new album is alright. Not the best thing ever but pretty good.

Same here, I find it quite uplifting, but because it sounds quite down, people assume the worst.
I like the new album, but some of it has a bit of a different feel to it than the rest of their stuff. I need to give it a few more listens though before I really decide on it.

Portishead and Thievery Corporation are my two favorite trip-hop bands.
Another great jazzy electronica band is Waldeck.

Probably Numb.
You mean 'Dummy', unless that was called 'Numb' overseas.

Shit, yeah, sorry, my brain is a bit fried today.
I'm a commercial idiot.
They are one of those bands where when I hear a song of theirs, I have to take my ipod off shuffle and then listen to the whole album.
Propellerheads are like that too.
I listened to portishead while reading all of fight club and for some reason they go perfectly together.
"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
Time to legally acquire a new album!
legally.. of course.
I will probably get this album.
