Seeing as this is my first post here, I'd like to apologize if I come across as a bit of an idiot, but I thought that Penny Arcade would have a lot of people that could understand what I'm currently going through and feel the same way that I do. I searched for a new thread that was similar to this one and didn't find one, so if someone already made one, I'd like to politely ask the mods to please go ahead and lock it and put a redirect to the current thread in here.
So then. Anyone that plays Team Fortress 2 on a fairly consecutive basis knows that there was a recent Medic update, allowing for upgraded weapons and a new heal gun. This would be awesome for someone like me that has over 9000 hours on Medic, but unfortunately everyone and their uncle is rushing to the Medic class to start meleeing and generally act like a pompous ass. When I advise them about what Medics are usually there for, i.e. healing, and try to offer information to assist in them bettering themselves and ensuring that our team doesn't get screwed over, they stuck their fingers in their ears, go "LALALALALA" and completely ignore any criticism that is offered.
See, this wouldn't bother me so much if any of these people were actually playing Medic before Valve came out and said "ZOOMJ UPDATES" and instantly slammed down on their 7 keys after picking a door. Anyone that was actually playing a Medic before and knew what they were doing, and as an aftereffect would thusly
know what they were doing when they went out on the field, would be A-OK in my book and encouraged to take up Medic while I went off and pulled out my Demoman or Scout and did some Defense/Capping, based on what was needed.
But no, the majority of people that I see grabbing Medics are usually people that like saying things with a German accent a little too much for a sane person, and therefore earn my contempt slowly, over a period of time. I'm a decent Heavy, but if you aren't hitting that right-clicker when I'm screaming
"Hit the damn Ãœbercharge!!!" and I have two Pyros with a few Ãœbers of their own, you are immediately asking for a seat on my "Suspicious" list, which will soon be replaced with the honor of being on my "Dumbass" list if things don't shape up.
I know that you have a few problems with Medic. I did too when I started out. What you do there is let one of the Veteran Medics come out with you to show you how to do things so you can learn, similarly to how one learns to not make Mine Gardens with Demomen, or how to strategically place your Sentry and Dispenser as an Engineer. But when you're screaming at me and the other vets about how we need to "GTFO WEER DOIN DIS NAO LOL", you're asking to get destroyed.
And so I ask you, TF2 Medics of Old, what has this new influx of complete and utter idiots done to your morale? Are the upgrades really worth it when you know that you're going to have to wait for damn near everybody else to get their upgrades because Valve had the great idea of letting Medic out first? Then, this forces you to listen to everyone telling you to "Stop whining" while your entire team of 11 Medics and you, the only sane member, get destroyed by those people that know what they're doing and letting the people that have been doing this forever get what they truly need? I believe I would have been happier not having this happen at all, or at least have Valve release the sets two at a time so this overload on one class doesn't happen. When the game that you're playing gets sacrificed for upgrades, all of a sudden it doesn't really seem worth it anymore.

First posts shouldn't really be topics of this nature
The difference between absolutely never ever playing and rarely playing is gargantuan. Medic is #3 for me, but even if it was #9, I would still (fucking) grind out the weapons so I'd have all of the options available to me those few times I do have to use one.
You can't blame people for wanting to utilize 100% of a class. Blame Valve.
(And yes, "they would suck with the new weapons, anyways" doesn't mean shit if they don't play medic much and suck with the regular ones, too. Blame Valve)
The best compromise I've heard between Valve's glorious vision and reality is only requiring 6/12/18 achievements for the unlocks. Then everyone could eventually get them without grinding(although I still would) and people with too much time on their hands could go for all of them.
Impressive
EDIT: Also I can't really see what the problem is here. People are having fun messing around, if you have a problem with this go make/join a serious buisness server with other legitimate serious buisnessmen.
The new Crit uber is mildly concernig as it seems incredibly cheap but I guess it will balance out somehow?
No, say no more. I have been suitably emasculated already.
Oh man, I'm totally going to make this server. You will be required to be wearing a suit and have a MBA and will need to show proof of both before joining the server. Once on the server you will go through a series of at least 3 interviews in order to determine what class we'll have you play.

Side note to Valve: Having the free weekend on the same week that everyone is spamming the medic class was probably not the brightest idea .
That's a great idea. Way to be proactive. Go ahead and schedule the meeting in outlook and send out a blast to the rest of the team. I think by discussing some of the opportunities that are there in regards to turret placement will really help us move forward.

Unless that's not his real name.
I'm at uni at the moment, but once I get home I'll get right on that!
Wait, who's pompous? :winky:
I'm curious if there's been a spike in new or 'lapsed' TF2 players because of the patch. I broke a few personal records yesterday as Pyro and Spy in the middle of the chaos.

The best idea would have been to wait until they were finished and then launch the class updates for every class at once, so nobody would know what to rush to.
While this would be ideal I'm sure they were worried that the game would start to get a bit stale in the time it would take them to develop and release all the class updates at once. It would also be much harder to tweak the balance of the new updates if they're all released at once, I imagine it would be much easier to release one class update, see how it plays out in the real world, tweak it a bit to balance out any exploits then move on to releasing the next class update.

When Valve came out with this update I knew right off the bat that this would happen. Shitheads playing medic just for the acheivement, but is this a bad thing? Usually when I would play I would be the only medic or there would just be one other. In a game where you have about 10 people per team, you want 3 medics to win. Not necessary, but seems to be the case to win constantly.
So with this new patch, some people may discover that medic really is a fun class to play and maybe they will become decent players with the class. This should make it so when I'm in a game and NO ONE is medic, I dont' feel obligated to go because it may happen less often, or someone else will be willing to go medic as well.
Just my thoughts on it. I try to be optimistic, but we'll see in the end if this is true or not.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the reason they decided to release the medic updates first.

I've done the pic, but for some reason my new PC isn't playing well with image hosting sites, so I've had to put it on my deviantART site. If somebody else wants to upload it to imageshack or whatever for me that'd be nice.

Best idea or best idea?
Fixed that.
This.
I think we should all be looking at this as an opportunity to get our fucking Spy on.
Step 1: Find a server flooded with Medics (apparently easy)
Step 2: Go spy, disguise yourself as a Medic.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit!
Where the ???? is "stabby stab stab" and the profit is fucking points.
LoL - Renon DeSaxous
... What's wrong with that?
Was he surrounded by teammates and refuse to target someone?
Or do you expect him to let himself die with a full uber because there's nobody around to use it on?
Wow, never expected such a positive response! Um, could somebody stick it on an image hosting site for me? Like I said, my PC doesn't seem to work well with them, can't upload anything. Not even exactly sure how I got that onto DA. I'd like to post it in the main TF2 topic without it looking like I'm just whoring my DA page.
EDIT: Nevermind, a friend of mine uploaded it for me.
Of course, I have them all now so I can resume normal levels of medicry. I'm not going to get on anyone's case about dumb shit anymore, though(for the most part). There's always going to be someone new, crapping up everything for unlocks. Sweet!
