iPod renumbering my tracks incorrectly

I've noticed that my iPod is randomly renumbering my tracks. Certain CD's that I know Song X is Track Number 2 will be numbered as Track 6, for example. It seems completely random as to what albums it affects because some are ripped CD's and some are pure digital downloads.

Going in and renumbering the tracks by hand in iTunes doesn't work either. After you renumber them in iTunes and synch the iPod, it reverts back to the incorrect numbering on the iPod, which makes absolutely no sense.

Any ideas?

Try highlighting all of the tracks in an album, right click, and mouse over Sort field, then click Same Album.

It's definitely not alphabetical. One album that's messed up goes G,T,B,E,M,H,I,T,H, etc. Track 2 should really be track six, in that example.

I have the same problem with two albums. With one album the first and second songs are reversed (Introduction songs are supposed to be first dammit) and on another tracks three and four are switched. Very annoying.

I've tried deleting the whole album from the library and re-adding it but to no avail.
