So I'm looking to buy a 360 and Gamestop has "Gamestop Refurbished" wired controller ones for $199.99. I spoke to a person who works at the store who told me that I should either buy the Arcade version, which seems like a terrible idea, or buy a completely new 360 due to the fact that since the 360 is registered to someone else, I won't receive any kind of warranty from Microsoft. I know that there are people on these boards who work at GS or have bought a used 360, so I'm wondering what people recommend. Will I be screwed if the system breaks and I try to send it in to Microsoft? Should I trust Gamestop and their used consoles, with all of the bad things that I've heard about them? The last console I bought was the PS2 when it first came out and I really haven't played any console games for a few years so I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing... thanks for any help.
unless gamestop is offering you a year+ warrenty on it, don't do it. 360's breaking all the time is not just "internet blows it out of proportion lol" they REALLY do break all the time. and yeah, someone is going to come in here and say they have a first run one working perfectly. and i'm sure some people do. but i'm on no.4 and i take pristine care of it; 1 friend irl is on 2, another on 3; and i don't have a single person on my 360 friends list that is on their original. now, MS takes care of you and gets you a refurb for free, or fixes yours, but don't think it won't break...it will.
edit: i'm not saying don't buy one, just buy a new one, with a full ms warranty, and accept that at some point you will be shipping it in.
(Insert inevitable "the internet blows it out of proportion" post)
That aside, it really does sound like a bad idea. I'd take a bet that one of the reasons it wound up getting sold back in the first place is because it's one of the older models and you'll definetily want to get one of the Falcon chipset models instead, which have HDMI support in addition to improved thermal capacity. That and you've no idea just what the bugger did with it before he sold it, so for all you know the thing might be five seconds of use from ringing out.
People often trade in busted consoles and gamestop barely checks them. I think they just see if it boots, which doesn't mean it's not trashed or that it isn't on its way. To the grave.
The Arcade isn't that bad a buy now that it includes a memory card and a wireless controller, although you do miss out on Xbox BC and whatever else the hard drive lets you do.

Like have decent storage capacities?
If you're going to just use it for some casual gaming the arcade could be ok, but if you plan on downloading anything get that Pro.

Highly unadvisable.
