I'll probably give this game a shot. That interview is pretty good.
The game is something of a lovesong to classic SNES RPGs, especially Chrono Trigger. Reminds me of House of 1000 Corpses relationship to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The entire concept of the game is to be a throwback to SNES RPGs. Nothing looks directly ripped; yes, the graphical style is very reminiscent, but unless you provide some side by side comparison shots it is a pretty large accusation to make.
And about 2:46 looking like straight out of Chrono Trigger? I've played through that game plenty of times and there are no scenes with stones you had to jump across. Or do you mean the fact that they both have caves? Why yes, since Chrono Trigger is the only 2d RPG allowed to have caves.
But yes, the game looks great and it definitely has a nostalgia factor that it plays on. And if anyone provides some side by side screenshots that can show that this stuff was ripped, then by all means, I'll eat my words. I see similarities, not theft.
1:49 in, they threw a rock in front of the cave exit but thats the first town in ff6 when you escape with the help of locke.
Ok I dunno I checked out that bit on youtube, if I found the right spot naw, it's not the same. I mean, yeah, snowy rocks, etc. but that's about it. More of an homage than anything.
In fact this Exile thing kinda looks a lot better. I mean of course, it's like a decade or so later and DS carts have way more storage.
Lets take a look here. (click spoiler for comparison shots)

It REALLY sounds like you guys forgot what SNES games looked like. They didn't "rip" anything which is completely obvious by the higher quality graphics used, if anything the graphics resemble RPGMaker more than anything else. It also sounds like you guys don't realize there's snow in EVERY RPG and there's caves in EVERY RPG. And let me tell you something else, FFVI and CT were definitely not the first to have snow and/or caves, does that mean they ripped off all the games before them? It's not the first 2d RPG ever, get over it.
Seriously guys, move on from this "omg copycats!" argument and lets focus on what's important. Will this be a good game? I've got my hopes up. Though I don't like the upper screen as it sorta looks a little bland and unpolished. But I guess they still have time to fix that up.

I've been watching this for a couple years, and I'm glad to finally see some new information come out. :^:

Wonder if it's... any good?
I see nothing wrong with the portraits, at all.
I swear... gamers these days are bloody spoiled.
The game looks decidedly 16-bit, but having lived through that generation, I have no problems with that. The combat looks fantastic though!
The narration of the trailer has some pretty hilarious things in it.
I hope to god there is a good damn reason for reversing the standard, like touchscreen control.
I just might give it a chance.
Recent interview stated that the game will be fully playable with either the stylus, standard controls, or any combination of the two.

because a lot of those levels look mighty familiar
The bit on the video at 2:46 looks straight from Chrono Trigger
so i'm just wondering how this game can actually get published because that is a major violation of licensing.

You know, despite the fact that it at least looks like it ripped a bunch of stuff directing from the games that other people have talked about.

Anyway, this is what I was looking at but I was kind of skipping around, feel free to point out what you're talkin' bout. I may have been looking at a dif spot than you mean.

However, that combat system looks extremely fun.

Very purple. Kinda sorta reminds me of the cover of BK.

Two Chrono games in one year on the DS. Can't beat that with a stick.
