Wii Hardware Soon?

I was just at Target, and happened to see 4 Wiis. Is there going to be any changes anytime soon? The PS3 and 360 both have gone through major updates, while I haven't heard of any about the Wii. Google searches only bring up rumors about a black Wii, and possibly a DVD player in one. I feel I've waited long enough, and Mario Kart and Brawl is giving me a major itch.

I doubt it. Nintendo doesn't need to update or change the Wii because they can barely keep them on shelves as it is.

Wii Fit coming out isn't going to help either.

Think Wii fit is bad? Wait till the traditional price drop comes later on when sales slow down a bit.... I honestly think the Wii will be a bitch to find until next summer...

I would be VERY surprised to see a wii price drop. Or any of the systems for that matter. VERY surprised.

For reference, the only thing they updated with the Gamecube was to remove the digital port.

They can't add DVD support because it doesn't have coaxial output, or something like that, so the DVD Forum wouldn't even license them in the first place.

You could just have the Wii painted black after it goes out of warranty..

The only change you might possibly see would be a new colour introduced, but that'll only happen if hardware sales slack off, and they just put out two hugely popular games. You're looking at sometime in the fall if it's going to happen.

And I doubt they'll include a price cut or any bundling changes when it does.

I want to get my Wii painted crimson for... obvious reasons.

I know there's a site that does this, but I can never effing find it. What is it?

Only way I see a price drop in the Wii is if the 360 price drops below the Wiis. From how it looks the core system for 360 (They still sell those?) is running about 280. So if that drops to 250 or below, it's possible that the Wii will see a 200 price to keep sales up. Who knows. I think the Wii will sell better than the 360 core if the Wii cost 300 and the core cost 250. Though that could be a biased opinion of a Sony fan that hates Xbox. =)

But I say get the Wii now while the demand seems to be low. That's what I did and I love it. The Wii has great games.

?? The PS2, Xbox, 360, and PS3 don't have anything the Wii doesn't have in terms of being able to play DVDs. As far as know the only reason it isn't included is because of the licensing fee (on the OXbox didn't you have to buy the DVD remote in order to play DVDs? I think this is where MS recouped the licensing fee.)

Uhh...there isn't going to be a price drop until demand stops outstripping supply. Which doesn't show any signs of happening yet. What are they going to do? Drop the price to encourage EVEN MORE demand they CAN'T MEET? Glad I got one when I did.

PS2 and Xbox were under older terms. 360 and PS3 can achieve the output with cables. The Wii cannot.

You need SPDIF audio output to get DVD licensing. The PS2 and Xbox (and PS3 and 360) have it, the Gamecube and Wii do not.

There's no technical reason why you can't play DVDs on the wii, and indeed homebrew players exist, but as far as the DVD licensing forum is concerned you need digital audio output.

Yeah, I still have never seen one on a store shelf. Like, ever.

It was about this time last year when I was in a Superstore for groceries and saw two on the shelf in the electronics department. So I snagged one without a second thought and haven't seen one sitting there like that since.

I'm not even sure if Wal Mart officially has a space for Wiis on their shelves. The bottom shelf still goes 360, PS3, DS, then GameCube.
