The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Blizzard Store now has direct downloads. No big deal really, except for one thing.
You sign up, type in your CD keys for certain games and blammo! You can redownload the game whenever the hell you want!
This is going to put sales of the SC and Diablo battlechests in the shitter because no one is going to need to replace scratched discs anymore, but whatever.
Speaking of Diablo it's not up yet, but should be added soon.

No it won't. I lose my CD keys, not my discs. I'm betting Blizzard is counting on that.
I'd imagine you'd register all your games now/when you buy them so that you can just log in with the standard username/password that you use for everything from your hotmail porn account to your online banking and download them without needing to remember the actual CD key because, you know, that key is now registered to your account already anyway.

Ugh, the verification e-mail is taking forever... I've double and triplechecked the e-mail address, and have had at least 3 sent out but still nothing.

You need to click a link for it to actually send out the email.

I just said I had it send them out 3 times.
Then I don't know what's going on, 'cause it sent it out to me as soon as I clicked the link.

Maybe because I sent it to a gmail account?
I received it just fine on Gmail. It didn't even go into the spam filter.

Dunno, but I'm on gmail and it's taking me a while too.
There's probably just heavy load on their servers at the moment or something. Possibly from people requesting the email confirmation multiple times and such...
Okay, finally got it to work. (Closing the browser, reopening and relogging in, THEN seding the verification e-mail seems to have worked; though the verification link crashed firefox twice.. I eventually had to do it in IE)
War2: BNE doesn't work, sadly, however it seems that a normal SC cd-key will give you both StarCraft and Brood War, since BW didn't have a cdkey originally. (Of course, who on earth would own SC and NOT own BW?).
Recent patches for Starcraft and War3 have lifted the cd-key check limitations, but that hasn't happened for Diablo II yet. I suspect that's why they're not available for download yet. Same with War2: BNE. (And likely why War2 isn't even mentioned as coming out soon; I doubt they want to bother updating it.)
Shame we'll probably never see hide nor hair of War1 ever again. Diablo 1 would require a fair bit of work (It ran almost all of the game data off the cd, there was no option to do a "full install"), in addition to the fact that it didn't have a cd-key so you'd need to rebuy it anyway, so it's likely we won't see it either.
I'd rather initially buy the retail version because Blizzard typically does them right. But being able to assign my CD-key to my account for re-download posibbly scratched games again makes this actually worth while. I'd like for them to be on Steam too. But they really don't need to and probably won't for the foreseeable future.
Anyway I signed up, my War3:TFT CD needs some finessing to get it to be read, so this saves me money. Thanks Blizz.

Son of a bitch. The only reason I didn't get Starcraft on Goozex was because the one with both Starcraft and Brood War wasn't available.
Services like these are awesome so I don't have to keep CD keys around, but it makes me question if these companies will be willing to release or transfer your key to someone else should you decide to sell the game.
At first I was disappointed that they didn't go the Steam route, but the fact that we can register our current games is awesome. I'll have to wait until this weekend to register my Warcraft III and Starcraft games, unfortunately.
A few years ago I bought the Warcraft 3 Battle Chest because I'd played the crap out of WC3, but I'd stopped long before Frozen Throne came out. So I bought the chest to play through Frozen Throne and play with my friends online.
I install WC3, open up the Frozen Throne jewel case, pull the disk out and it snaps in half.
Still haven't played Frozen Throne. I wholly endorse the digital download.
...man it would be awesome if Steam did the same thing for all the games you can get through them. I have a lot of those games retail and it would be awesome to just tie them to my account and be able to forever download them.

There's nothing to question. Of course they won't transfer your key to someone else. Blizzard wants people to buy thier games from them, not from you.
I really hate security level requirements for passwords. If I want my password to be less than 4 letters long or contain exclusively letters instead of letters & numbers, then fucking let me. If someone REALLY wants to haxxor my Blizzard game download account, well I'm the one who messed up, and I'm not losing sleep over it. I have a few passwords I use, and none of them include numbers and letters, and when some stupid site asks for one like that I always forget it and have to go through the forgotten password bullshit.

Well, it does work with just about all Valve games, and a select few non-Valve games.

The retail versions of some Steam games don't even have CD-keys, though.
This should come in extremely handy considering the mystical self destruct spells Blizzard seems to cast on it's game discs. I swear between myself and one of my friends we probably bought Warcraft 2 about a dozen times due to scratched/broken or lost discs.

As soon as I read the title, I thought "why would someone call their download service 'liquid'?"
Anyway, I guess I am going to go hit this up for Brood War if I can find my SC CD/key since I never actually got it retail. I know, I know, heresy, madness etc. I was a wee kid at the time and saving up was hard with my zero allowance...
Seems like their servers are being hit up pretty hard. It's been half an hour since my last activation request (about an hour since the first) and I still don't have an email yet.

It's probably some stupid XML problem with IE, but searching on google only gives me XML jibberjabber.
Really? It true, that means I'll be able to install WC3:TFT in the future without borrowing a friends disc.
Well, that sounds like a personal problem to me.
Myself I need to go back to the family manse and see how many jewel cases I still have for random Blizz products.
Hell I probably have enough copies of the stuff from various sales to get two full accounts of the blizzard back catalog up!

Well, WTF then?
(wait, why would I ever want to play that again?)
Because it's an awesome game?
