The real action starts 60 seconds in. I'll replace this with a Gametrailers video when they get it up.

Again, Sony Gamers day in London. This game is PS3 only.

What they have done here is recreate most of the stuff from that infamous CGI bullshottery that was the games announcement. HD to come soon as well as a 15 minute presentation a la e3. I'll post some impressions as well.

That video source is so terrible I couldn't really tell much of what was going on except it felt like a cross between Gears of War and Quake IV...

Which is interesting as Resistence 2 looked like a better version of Quake Wars. Be interested to hear more about that one..

I probably should have waited a bit before making the thread, as all the glorious high def extended stuff is being released later. I just thought there would be rabid Killzone fans who lap up everything asap who would like it. Looks great to me. February 09 though is annoying.

I think I'm more surprised it didn't get pushed further off than February at this point. Thanks for the info Scarab!

I'm not particularly excited either, Killzone 1 was the definition of mediocrity.

But in HD it looks the business. If for no other reason than the graphics it deserves attention.

I didn't realize Gamers Day is going on. I couldn't really see much from that trailer, quite blurry, so here's hoping for an HD version later. Hopefully we'll see some new Getaway footage from this event, because that's what I'm really looking forward to. I mean, the game is set in London, the event is in London. Come on!

Pretty much the Bible thread for Killzone 2 atm (including HD screens, gifs and movies):

washed out is the correct phrase to describe the colouration of Kz2.

I disagree. It's no in your face bloom effect colors like Gears, but I think the softer earth tones set the mood/setting of the game very well.

I never played KZ1, but this one has been on my radar for a while. With the fun me and my friend've been having running through Resistance, I think I'll be purchasing KZ2 for co-op play. I'll probably try it myself, but I don't much like FPSs single player.

I have to say I love the coloration of the game, too.

Killzone 1 is okay, the real gem is the PSP game which was pretty fun. I'm looking forward to this new sequel, too bad it got pushed to February although that will give Resistance 2 some space. Weirdly, I'm more excited about Killzone 2 than Resistance 2. I enjoyed the first Resistance, it was very competent on a technological level, it just didn't resonate with me that well.

This game's main strength is supposed to be graphics right?

Because, I mean, it looks technically accomplished, but not a 'generation' ahead of Black. Washed out as hell too.

The gameplay looks like every FPS cliché mashed together. I mean shit, did you see the way those guys were hanging around those explosive barrels? "Fend off these guys whilst I hack this door!"

These days I don't play FPSs unless they either A) have unique gameplay, B) have a unique style, or C) a really interesting story.

Maybe this has a great story, but I'm not impressed so far.

The game also has 8 months left to go.

I think the technical merits of the game not only have a strong foundation now, but are already much nicer than any other game I have seen to date.

Is the code we've seen perfect? No, but given the trend that it is following, I would expect it the final product to be nothing short of amazing.

And on a side note, people seriously need to stop comparing KZ1 with KZ2. The two games are apples and oranges at this point.

I enjoyed the first one, my roommate and I played the shit out of it and spent quite a lot of time in the multiplayer (usually just doing 1v1 or us two versus a team full of bots). Wasn't totally awesome but I still had fun playing it.

The multiplayer of the first one is so fun. Single player wasn't completely terrible. It starts getting buggier the closer you get to the end.

Multiplayer though. 1 on 1 is great.

My bro will probably get this eventually seeing as how he is the only person in the family with a PS3.

Yeah, me and my friends had a blast playing KZ1 multiplayer. Some of the maps weren't really balanced well though, the beach one was a bitch if you were on the beach side of the map.

Anyway, for those that haven't watched them, here are the trailers:

I'm baffled how people can downplay Killzone 2, it looks fucking amazing. Did you see the particle effects and lighting? Shit looks insane.

Rook: Gears and Quake IV, really? I can't say I'm an expert on Quake IV but KZ2 looks more like a combination between Black and CoD4 to me.

I am wearing the biggest grin right now. More than KZ2, THIS is the game that baffles me when people don't go apeshit over it.

Every time I see the game, my anticipation grows tenfold. And I promise you I'm already hyped beyond belief for it.

I give you half-a-lime. The two need to stop being compared, but they aren't apples and oranges. I think KZ2 will look amazing, but will wind up being hamstrung by over-scripting.

Now if it was using Euphoria...

After playing extensive amounts of GTA IV, I'm convinced that absolutely every game with 3D character models of humans or human-like things should use Euphoria.

You should compare KZ1 to KZ2 because hey are from the same developer.

Yes, they vastly expanded their funding and employees for 2 but still, from a game design standpoint they have the same core people.

So while the graphics may be a huge improvement, the gameplay shouldbe comparable.

Of ocurse we give them the benefit of the doubt, everything shown of kz2 so far is great. but acting like this is 'the next halo' or anything is another symptom of the overhype train that sony has been fuelling since PS3 launch.

i mean, heavenly sword was supposed to be the triple A killer app. Lair too. lots and lots of massively overhyped games.

I would prefer KZ2 was a surprise hit rather than an expected letdown.

man, no way. uncharted's animation had so much more character and flair than gta, and was still always as smooth and unexpected, that you have to wonder what's lost in a completely procedural system

edit: i'm not saying euphoria's bad, i just think it needs to allow room for personality before we start seeing every game use it

True, I loved the animation in Uncharted. GTA IV doesn't use Euphoria for everything, it uses it to blend between animations and for impact physics and the like. There are still plenty of traditional animations in GTA IV.

I haven't really seen anything bad with Killzone 2's animations to really warrant using Euphoria. I'm actually pretty impressed by how they react to explosions. Instead of flying 20 metres like a weight-less feather, they seem to actually have some weight to them.

And yeah, LBP looks amazing. I'm hoping they take the Helghast concept further and implement a ton of Sony-related Sackboys, basing them on characters like Kratos, Jak, Ratchet, Nathan Drake, Wanderer, etc. Or even better, pass the game around Sony developers (like Naughty Dog, Team ICO, Insomniac, etc) and let them design their own levels, maybe even based on their own games.

You gotta love how COD4 changed multiplayers. Killzone is instituting alot of the things that game did, but tweaking it and adding it's own things. I really liked what I read, so hopefully the game will actually be worth playing.
