Guess Who's Going To Be A Groundling?
BusterKNegativity is Boring Cynicism is Cowardice Registered Userregular
The Groundlings are a comedic improvisational company and school http://www.groundlings.com
Some of their most famous alumni include
Phil Hartman
and Will Ferrell
Yesterday, I auditioned for the school and got word today I passed
So I will begin taking the actor's classes in the next two weeks
Not exactly the two steps from the big time
But it's a start
And to let you know if you get any PMs from me with odd questions just know that your answers are probably going in a sketch of some sort
Seriously
But not just any improv
Really it's the best school for this short of The Second City and since that's in Chicago, this is the next best thing
$475
Which is a pain in the ass for someone saving for a Wedding
But worth it
They also have the non-actors classes which are very fun for $250
I took those first and I think that was part of the reason I passed
Seriously

Stick with it man, it's fun.

I might take one of those non-actor classes at some point.

I'm a pretty accomplished bullshitter.
How do the classes work, though?
Just sign up, pay your money and go
The non-actor classes are really laid back
They start slow and build on fundamentals
If you want stress I took the sketch writing class and man
I was up almost 7 nights a week trying to get mine just right

I've been to Second City several times; my cousin Brendan Hunt was in the show regularly for a while, before moving to Amsterdam and performing on Boom Chicago (I saw that too!)
Just remember, there is good improv, and there is "check it out I'm using a funny voice that makes the things I'm saying funny ha ha ha"
It's so weird, man. During the holiday season all the old alumni come back and visit.
I want to work at the T-shirt booth at Second City, apparently it's a prereq to being awesome. Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert both worked the booth (incidentally, Stephen Colbert still holds the record for most t-shirts sold in a single night). It's weird to think that you are standing on the same stage people like Farley stood on, or that Carrell and Colbert were nobodies selling t-shirts at a comedy school.

Chicago, moved up there straight out of college to take classes. It's a blast. Sharna is still running things at IO.

yet
I want the FIRST City.
Also I have been known to call objects "things" in an improv scene
It's not a good idea
