Cortex Command: Brain on Brain action! 56k smothered in bodies

So, CORTEX COMMAND! It's an indie game still in development, but even at this stage it's plenty of fun building up a command bunker, setting up your defences and just letting the AI try, just try to get at you by throwing wave after wave of troops at you. Think RTS-lite Worms with a good dose of physics thrown in.

ims7rs.png
It's the future, and you're a disembodied brain in a jar, sent to exploit far-off planets through your legion of remote controlled bodies. What we're here for is GOLD. If this were just a simple mining game, that wouldnt be much fun, but guess what? It's not!

33ju5hl.png
Fully destructible and accumulating terrain + gibbable enemies and vehicles = body choked bunkers.

1e8iue.png
And rocket-powered torsos

52jo5l.png
Fight off impossible odds!

Fun with Rocketry!

And build fortresses out of the bodies of those who dared oppose you!

What're you waiting for? Download the 20 meg demo, with a 6 minute free skirmish mode, and if you like it, drop some money into it and play it forever!

Go, GO GET IT NOW!

It's got 4 person local multiplayer. Online would be sweet, through there's no promises yet.

You just use WASD to walk up to something until its description is listed above your current character and use the right mouse button radial menu to pick it up.

like when you order stuff and then when it arrives it basically just crashes so most of the stuff you ordered just gets destroyed and you have a pile of scrap

If you're ordering too much you'll overload the rocket. The basic rocket is good for single person deliveries. 2-3 and you use the dummy dropship, and more than that, use the heavy dropship.

The fun part is that you can take control of the ships and use the fire button to eject your cargo, then pilot over to enemies and fry them with your rocket exhaust.

Or you can just fly them back offscreen for a refund.

Alternately, fill the rockets with the free crabs (like 10-20), so that they explode in an FPS-dropping rain of flesh that kills most things above ground.

I have to say the AI for your units is pretty fucking shitty

set a unit to dig and it seems just as likely to point the digger up in the air as anything else

Pretty much. The Sentry AI is the only one that seems to work. Either the mining AI doesnt work or it needs additional input, somehow.

SO, you sound like you're an ad agency for this game.

i don't care about promoting something that is good. but the way you're talking about the different stuff we can do makes you sound like a plant

I'm impressed at how resilient this game is. I dropped like three crab bombs on a small level at once and it slowed waaaay down but it didn't crash.

I spend 15 minutes putting together elaborate, trap filled corridors and subterrain mazes for the enemy to navigate to my brain.

Then they spend 6 minutes trying to get through the first door.

Yeah, that's one thing that needs to be fixed. If the mining AI was halfway decent then it would be worthwhile to mine but otherwise you're almost wasting time mining while your enemy is likely to be rushing your base.

I actually did figure it out. You use the Go To AI mode to set waypoints, equip a digger and then activate the AI mining mode.

I really like how even after time expires, enemy landing ships keep coming, but don't leave.

So they pileup and run into eachother and explode.

Well, not til you've figured out landing shuttles anyway.

Cleaning up a big enemy cluster by hovering your drop pod over there and burning their heads off with your rocket exhaust is awesome.

One time I had a brave soldier with no legs wielding a shotgun to defend my base. I left him alone and I heard a massive explosion. That son of a bitch shot down a dummy lander and got crushed.
