Yeah, all the latest screenies have Magi standing on the ground.
It also appears that the Magus is currently not playable in the Beta.
The last reports we had on them was that they were not very exciting, and that their spells were a little lack luster. They threw around different colors of fire, that didn't have very good animations.
So, chances are the Magus was yanked and is being redone. Part of that redo seems to be a re-evaluation of the Disc.
Man if the Magus' disc is removed I'm going to be SUPER sad I've always hoped that they'd be able to hold their own in melee through the disc, Shadow Warrior style.
There were never any reports that the Disc was even capable of combat in any way. Which is probably part of the reason for the re-tool of the class.
Yeah, I'm kind of glad they're changing the idea of the Magus. Maybe it'll be a class-specific mount or something? That something being a summoning spell that creates a horde of disks that push people around in a random direction plus damage over time.
Unfortunately I doubt they would change the Magus to a demon summoner no matter how cool it would be. As it stands now Destruction is already up one pet class. Though that should change if the rumors about the High getting the White Lion is true.
One thing that would be awesome, well at least for the Magus, is if they had WoW mage like crowd control but instead of a sheep you change your target into an over mutated slug thing. I haven't really heard much about about crowd control abilities at all though.
Doesn't the Magus have that one skill where an enemy you murder becomes a Horror and attacks enemies randomly? Feed My God, or something? That's pretty much the best secondary effect in the history of ever.
Also, old Magus abilities included a Disc-based melee counter and a speed buff. I really hope they're doing more with that kind of stuff.
Agreed. More disk abilities. I'll be pretty disappointed if in an effort to spice up the Magus they take away the one thing that currently makes him more than a Bright Wizard.

Does the magus have any Bolt of Change esque spells that we know of? Spells that turn enemies into gibbering piles of flesh or wretched mockeries of life?
Remember, we have been told that Magus was taken out of the game to be reworked, so we really don't know of anything about the class at all, except for what they look like.
They need to have some very chaotic attacks that have numerous possible effects.
That and the ability to fly on a disk that has half a stuntie sticking out of its mouth (Is mouth the correct word when talking about the main orifice on a tzeentch disk demon thing?)
They need to be able to shoot a fire that when it kills people, it summons a Daemonic Pink Horror of Tzeentch for a little while.
That'd be a fun spell.
That'd be a cool form of crowd control. WoW's polymorph would kick more ass if instead of a sheep you turned into a Warp-spawned horror and attacked your own allies.
Speaking of, if there were more people hanging out in the IRC channel mentioned in the first post, I'd probably just spout off there instead. I'm in there most days I'm at work (and more rarely at night). I'm sure things will be more active once the guild beta and then the game launches, it's still fun to get to know future guild members.
If you worked as team, CC was not a huge problem in DAOC. Healers, Sorcs and Bards could dispel mez effects (It had a silly fast cast speed time). There was also a RA that would pop you out of CC effects. Tanks could also get an RA track that would shorten CC effects by a shit ton.
I honestly think the people who whined the most about the CC in DAOC are talking about the days pre-Realm Abilities, or the days when CC was broken to hell and you could chain stun/mez/root them to their death. It got much better about 6 months to a year after the game came out.
It was fun as hell to beat 20 stupid people with a group of 8 because they didn't work together and were in a zerg mentality. If you are going to mindless zerg, expect to die to CC, IMO.
Fun Magus fact - Paul has been quoted in a video saying the Magus will have a spell called 'Feed My God', where he apparently "Shoots lightening out of his hands like ZHZHZHZHZHZHZHHZZZZZZZHHHAAAA! and his opponent rips in half and a terrible writhing horror from beyond crawls out of his body and starts killing people"
I also don't think Mythic has said there will be *exact* opposites, more modular components found across the classes.
Well, I think every class will have its counterpart across enemy lines. There may be some differences, but I'm sure at release it will be possible to say "oh that's the Order version of Black Guard" or whatever. It makes sense. Mythic would have a tough time creating 24 classes with unique mechanics. 12 plus tweaks is more doable.
DAoC has 44 classes, and no, they won't do a 'order version of black guard.' They will have an elf tank but not 'a raging ball of hate that eats dark elves for breakfast.'
They've said as much. Read the tree descriptions for Sorceresses and Bright Wizards and tell me they won't play similarly.
Every class is mirrored by another class on the opposing side of the factional fence. Think of it more as an aluminum foil mirror, while they provide the same basic shapes (concepts), the fine details are very different. Whether this means unique skills and abilities as well as the obvious look and skill names, has yet to be seen (or atleast, is covered by the NDA)
As in, Black Guards and Iron Breakers both have a "scale up damage" mechanic, but Hatred sounds more focused on specific foes than Grudges, which are built off damage to your friends.

You used to be cool Tzeentch, but college changed you. I'm going back to Nurgle.
FAT FOR THE FAT GOD!

Soooo, buddy passes. Do they do anything other than sit in my list of associations?
Oh well, my computer probably can't even play this anyway.

That'd be a fun spell.
That's terrifying.

I thought DaoC had silly amounts of it?
Yeah, DAoC's CC was far worse than WoW's, in PvP at least. CC in WoW is pretty tame, what with all of the nerfing it has suffered since before BC.
They've said their opposed to CC in WAR. They're putting in as little as possible. Mostly just slows and maybe some roots.
Equally as satisfying as killing stealthers.

Frankly, I assume their comparing almost everything to WoW. It IS the new benchmark.
There needs to be suitable counter techniques and a limit to how much damage can be done by one person during stun mechanics

Of course
A: It's Paul
B: That was some time ago
