Every city has their own assortment of local, low-budget commercials. Sometimes hilarious, frequently awful. Tell me about your city's. Are there any good ones? Any particularly terrible ones?

When I lived in D.C., the Ranger Surplus store had a series of ads in which, inexplicably, the store's tagline appeared to be "It's the cat's ass." That was pretty funny.

But now I live in L.A., and they're almost all extremely terrible. Which is ironic, given the high number of film students who would probably work for peanuts. This one is one of the worse offenders, making me reach desperately for the remote whenever it comes on. NSFW, since it's for a strip club:

    there's a local insurance company up here called vern fonk insurance

    his commercials are hilarious

    unintentionally so

    it is so obviously this out of touch dude trying to use pop culture to appeal to a younger audience

    My favorite had some giant build up about how great their product was and at the end it said "WE COULDN'T SAY IT ON TV IF IT WASN'T TRUE!"

    There was this certain series of ads.

    For I think a furniture warehouse.

    It had this guy with a really creepy voice, and he's standing in front of all these random mannequins and stuffed animals (of the taxidermy kind).

    And when he pitched his store random noises come from off-screen and he talks to the mannequins.

    Fucking disturbing.

    That's actually really funny.

    The premise alone is reasonably amusing, but shooting it Candid Camera style was really effective. Half the fun was just watching the slowly-dawning realization on everybody's face.

    reminds me of that other public prank sketch comedy show

    it was from england

    the hell was that called

    they did that thing where a guy talks really loud on the phone in public except he has this HUGENORMOUS phone that could be used as perhaps a surfboard in an extreme tidal emergency

    my favorite thing from that show is where they have two guys in dog suits fighting

    like one dude in a dog suit will just be standing in a shop, looking at flowers or something, when the second jumps him from out of nowhere and just beats the shit out of him
