Hi all, hailing from southern minnesota here. Got a couple outta state friends going to PAX and i would love to go but I'm gonna be short on cash. (always am)
Well i need some opinions on this, i could dish out the air fare at about $460 for a round trip from Minneapolis to Seattle or i could take a greyhound and pay $178 for a round trip.

Now let me summarize the details for each option.

By Air Pros

Short trip - 3hrs 46mins
Less time lost

By Air Cons

The money - $460ish
The usual airport bullshit
Having to find a ride to Minneapolis - 2hrs from where i am.

Greyhound Pros

Cheaper - $178 - nearly 280 bucks cheaper.
No need to find a ride to the Minneapolis. Bus liner leaves from my hometown.
No Airport bullshit to deal with.
No Driving
Greyhound Station in Seattle is just 4 blocks from the con.
Bus leaves around 11:30 the last night of the Con, no need for extra night in hotel. More $$$ saved.
Greyhound Station in Seattle is only 4 blocks from the Con.

Greyhound Cons

Gotta leave a day in advance - 1d 10hrs to Seattle
Trip back has nearly a 7hr overlay in Billings, MT.
No real entertainment from Greyhound.

So PA forum readers what do you think?

By Air, or by Bus?

The early bird catches the worm, but the late rising worm lives. 8-)

Have you checked out the Cross-Country Supertrip Thread?

Edit: It even looks like there's empty space in someone's car leaving from Minneapolis, if you can get there.

This right here is enough to say HELL NO to taking Greyhound. I was stuck in that tiny hole of a bus station for an hour once, and nearly lost it. There is nothing nearby to do, nothing to do in the station itself, and it's fucking Billings, Montana besides. Seven hours there would not leave you a sane person.

As an alternative, I highly recommend looking into the CCST. It's an awesome experience, and probably not any longer or more expensive than the bus trip for you.

If CCST doesn't work out, take the bus. Bring a book. Or seven.

I almost wish I didn't live in Seattle, so I could go on the CCST.

Otherwise, doggedly-slow though it may be, you're probably best with the bus. Save your cash for partying once you get here. ;)

Something else to consider is that if you're spending 30-35 hours traveling each way, thats at least 2 days you won't be at work. If you earn more than $140/day you're not really saving anything by taking the bus when you could be at work the extra days.
