Hello fine denizens of H/A. I have been the very proud owner of an Xbox 360 for about six months now. I have enjoyed many of the titles on the system and don't really have any gripes with it at all. However, my girlfriend has recently moved in to my apartment and, while a neophyte at gaming, is quite curious about the console side of things. Since she doesn't want to invest in a psp or a ds for multiplayer fun, I was wondering what are some good 2 player games for the 360? The only one I have at the moment is Halo 3 and she's a bit intimidated by the coop mode (plus there is only so much replayability there). I was looking at viva pinata, but was crushed when all the multiplayer seemed to be on XBL. I would prefer to stay away from Gran Turismo/Burnout style racers, as they just don't have a ton of draw to either of us. I'm thinking something in the vein of the mario party games for Nintendo's lineup or what have you. Thanks in advance!
Eternal Sonata if you're into RPGs - the combat is multi-player.
The Simpsons Game is surprising fun co-op.
Overlord has a split-screen mode.
Several games on XBLA have multi-player.
Gears of War has a solid co-op campaign mode, in the same spirit as Halo 3.
Lego Star Wars, if you're into Star Wars, this is great.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a solid dungeon crawler with RPG elements.
AVOID : Army of Two. My buddy and I put it down after 1 hour we thought it played so terribly.
Lego Star Wars, if you're into fun games, this is unbelievably awesome.
fixed.. Seriously, this is like the best girlfriend game ever, especially since there's like zero penalty for dying
Party games I don't know much about; there's that fusion frenzy 2, but I'm not sure if it's worth it... army of two i'm not as down on as above, though it's probably more of a $30 game. In the vein of Ultimate Alliance, there's original Xbox Baldur's Gate & Hunter serieses that are designed for co-op play
I agree with Lego SW and Marvel UA, they both have very forgiving gameplay and should provide a decent starting point to build confidence and work on the basics. There's also a Lego Indiana Jones coming out within a month, and that should have co-op (or it would be a huge step back).
Beautiful Katamari- it has a VS battle mode AND a co-op mode both playable on local multiplayer. It's simple enough so she won't be overwhelmed yet deep in content.

Nice, I will probably look to get both of these titles. She is still working on the basics, but she is picking up quickly.
I will also look heavily into Eternal Sonata, provided the multi is meaningful and well rounded.

Excellent call. She is new to gaming but has a "good feel" from RPGs. To what degree is the combat multiplayer?
The combat is real-time movement/attacking, but each player has their own turn. Each of you can control one/two characters (there are 3 in your party). Eventually you chain special attacks and such together so combat means being cooperative with each other. My wife doesn't game much but really liked the story and musical theme of the game as well.
Let her try Guitar Hero or Rock Band.
Most girls I know are nuts for that shizz. Also, DDR. But that means you have to dance, so be prepared to look like a tool.
Someone mentioned Fuzion Frenzy 2. It's like a crappy Mario Party, but you can find it for very, very cheap (like $10). It's worth trying out. The mini-games are pretty fun, but ... that's about all it has going for it.
Aegis Wing is a free XBLA game that has a nice co-op mode. Pretty fun game.
And yeah, Guitar Hero/Rock Band take the cake.

I got my wife started with Rainbow6II in co-op. Once she got the control sorted out she really got into it and ended up getting her own 360. She spends more time in multiplayer than I do.
I second the Beautiful Katamari suggestion, especially if your girl has a good sense of humor. Actually considering picking that up today myself.
I might just have some awesome female friends, but I've hung out with a shocking amount of girls that LOVE GTAIV. They find paying hookers, killing pedestrians, and reckless driving almost as fun as most of us guys do. I know that's probably not the norm, nor is GTAIV a local multiplayer game, but it's a thought worth keeping in mind if you don't abhor taking turns, and if she's a little bit cynical.

You cannot go wrong with rock band. Non-gamers like it because sucking at it does not end with your death and humiliation like violent games. And easy mode is very easy. And it's making music together. Not trying to best the computer AI.
I will also throw in my recommendation for rock band or guitar hero.
It's pretty much the only game I play with my girlfriend besides heroes of might and magic (PC)

If you hurry, Fry's has a deal for Katamari (360) for $15 that ends tonight.

A good deal, but my local Blockbuster has it used for $14.99. Less gas money.

It got my mother into gaming, it has good replaybality, and really fun local multiplayer.
Give the demo a try; I can almost guarantee that you and your gf will like it.
