Side-scrolling RTS from the original 'de Blob' developers.
    http://www.ronimo-games.com/
UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS – August 15, 2008 – The developers of the original version of “de Blob” announce their new game studio Ronimo Games and their first title: Swords & Soldiers.

Ronimo Games is founded by seven developers in Utrecht, the Netherlands. As students the team was responsible for the original pc game “de Blob”. Being an innovative and fun game, “de Blob” became popular on the internet and was eventually picked up by THQ. The publisher bought the IP and will soon release the new version of “de Blob” for Nintendo Wii.
Fabian Akker, one of the co-founders: “de Blob was the eye opener for us, that we can make cool games and function as a good team. The game definitely gave us the opportunity to start our own company”.

The team is developing a new game for Wii Ware: Swords & Soldiers. Swords & Soldiers is a sidescrolling real time strategy game, in which three distinct factions battle for the powers of the gods. The game will feature a single player campaign and a competitive splitscreen multiplayer mode as well as several other game modes. Three screenshots are included with this press release.
Akker: “We always dreamed of designing an RTS and when Wii Ware came out we immediately figured that this was our chance.”

Swords & Soldiers will be the first competitive strategy game on Wii Ware and is scheduled for European, Australian and American release in Q4 2008.

Yeah, apparently it's an RTS, and the pointer on the screen shots implies you'll be clicking your warriors about.

I loved RTSs but they always become a hetic macro, and click fest, this (and the WiiWare space invaders RTS thats coming) might give me a way to play them again. It's very exciting.

I'll pass on Megaman until they release MM2. Then I will throw my MM collection disc away.

Swords and Soldiers looks like the most incredible WiiWare game to date. I want to download StrongBad but Bionic Commando refuses to release me from its metal grips.

Namco would be awesome if they put Pac-Man Vs. up on Wii-Ware with DS support.

I can't play that anymore, not after the time I won by only eating the fruit. Unless they make it online so I can play against people who haven't sworn off the game.

Austin, TX (August 21st 2008) – Ghostfire Games™ announced today that Helix™, a music rhythm game, will be released this coming Monday August 25th on the WiiWare™ service for the Wii™ console.

Ed Roman, CEO of Ghostfire Games, had the following to say: “We’re extremely excited to release Helix™ to the general public. Its one of the most innovative music rhythm games ever designed. You use the Wii Remote™ controllers to do over 30 upper body moves while listening to fast-paced music. You do all this while the backgrounds (and the Wii Remote™ controllers) pulse to the beat.”

“Helix is not only fun, it’s a great workout. You can really burn some calories playing this game. You tend to lose yourself playing the game and forget that you’re even getting a workout, because the gameplay is compelling.”

“We listened to thousands of songs and narrowed it down to the 26 you find in this game. These 26 tracks are amazing and come from independent musicians that you won’t find elsewhere. It’s the type of music you want to hear over and over again because it’s so good. We’ve included over 26 songs to play, so the replay value is absolutely incredible for 1000 Wii Points™.”

It's things like this that make me fucking love WiiWare/XBLA/PSN - that game would never have seen the light of day on and (unmoded, out of the box) console. Whether it's good or not, higher volume of quirky 2D games means more better ones in the end - plus exposure and experience all around. The whole 'smaller, cheaper games via download' model might be the best thing to come out of this generation so far.

IGN sez Strong Bad 2 is on schedule for next month but SB3-5 may be late. Interestingly, each episode is being written by a different person... I wonder how that works what with the chapmanns obviously having to be involved in the writing as well.

If you don't already have at least one other Wiimote, you're basically missing 80% of the point of owning a Wii.

I mean, I bought Wii Play (for the extra Wiimote, but I've had fun with those minigames, too) plus two more Wiimotes, plus an extra nunchuck (for Wii Boxing on the Wii Sports disc) all together with the console (when I was finally able to locate one for sale, back in June 2007.)

And that 80% bit has to do with my realization that 80% of the time I've spent playing Wii was with at least one other person.

The Chapmans likely come up with a general story outline, the outside writer writes, and the Chapmans polish/confer with/approve as necessary, I'd bet.

Well, one of them, at least.

By the way, I saw a preview of Sambo de Amigo, or whatever it's called, and it looks awesome. Any indication if this will also require 2 wiimotes, though. Seems to be the case.
