Final Fantasy Jobbing I'm stuck! (FF3)

Ok, I'm playing Final Fantasy 3 on the DS, and I've run into a bit of a problem. I'm all about giving my characters jobs, and find it quite enjoyable. However, in FF3, I've just drained the lower level and my characters seem to be quite weak.

Here is my current party and how they evolved.

Freelancer -> Warrior -> Knight
Freelancer -> Thief -> Monk
Freelancer -> Black Mage
Freelancer -> White Mage

The problem is that they are now level 23 and have a job level quite high too. The problem is that when I change my magic users, they *lose* the spells that are already a smidgen weak for the world

I made my black mage a scholar, and my black spells don't work and the books didn't really fill the void.
I made my white mage an envoker, and now my cure magic doesn't work at all!

Should I make my Knight a dragoon? Does the spear do more damage than my dual-wieled blood sword and royal sword?

I was also supposed to be able to promote to black belt after the water crystal, but the job isn't in the list.

I also have no armor for my characters after I switch classes~! It won't take thier old stuff.

Can I get a little help in job assignment here?

    Since you said mostly, I'm gonna talk about FFX-2. I would spend forever in a fight just changing costumes over and over. Good times.

    Well, it's mostly a "I'm stuck" kind of thing more than anything.

    Actually, It's pretty bad. I just, as an experiment, changed all my jobs...

    Knight -> Dragoon
    Monk -> Ranger
    Black Mage -> Scholar
    White Mage -> Evoker

    I bought all new stuff and now the game got really retarded!

    I got my ass handed to me outside the first town. I used to be able to do ~700-800 damage, and now I'm only doing about 70-100. This is way no fair! I didn't even kill the first monsters and they wiped out my entire team.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Ugh, I couldn't finish Fire Emblem for Gamecube. I'm playing it on Wii now. On Easy. D:

    Some basic tips:

    Leave your mages as mages (unless you're at a point where you HAVE to use Scholars or whatever). You might want to even make your White Mage a Red one instead because by the time you need high level white magic you can use a better class.

    There's really no point in having people do a bunch of different jobs. Most of the jobs are useless towards your final goal. Stick with the ones that work for you.

    Oh and in case you don't know: there's an adjustment period after switching jobs where you'll do crap damage. You should also probably level grind a bit after switching jobs to get your job level up.

    Evokers blow, Rangers and Scholars are situational. A scholar is very helpful for Hien castle and nowhere else.

    It's been awhile since I played but what other jobs do you have? I think Geomancer is around that point in the game and is quite good.

    Don't forget that you need to do so many battles, as when you change classes, you have a penalty put on the character that lasts for a set number of battles.

    Also, scholars are pretty useless.

    Dragoons are rather valid. I'd keep with the monk.

    Also, the mages are fine. Most of the jobs in the game are rather useless. Dark Knights are handy only in one dungeon.

    Not quite. Dark Knights become awesome in the late game if teamed with a bard. You can throw them in the back row and spam their Darkness attack and regain the life with the bard. Truely nasty combo.

    Basically the only really bad classes in the game are Evoker, Scholar, Ranger, Sage. Everything else just about has its purpose. Vikings are one class in particular that tends to get a bad rap but are in fact absolutely amazing. Back Row+Two Good Shields+Provoke+Hard Boss=Total Tanking Ability.

    Sage was amazing in FC FF III and is easily the most nerfed character in the game.

    Hmm...

    I'm finding the game pretty easy right now (my airship got shot down a bit ago) but I'm kind of cheating.

    I have my White Mage wielding a Fire Rod and Light Rod, and my Black Mage using a Fire Rod and an Ice Rod.

    This way I can cast all the spells I want and not worrying about consuming my precious, precious MP.

    Also, Scholars are only really useful on bosses since they remove buffs when you use Study.

    I think my other two characters are a Scholar and a Geomancer (though she's temporarily a Dragoon until I get through the next section).

    Unlike FF5, you don't want to switch jobs that often in 3. Often, the new jobs aren't upgrades of the old classes so much as opening up other options that are not necessarily better. None of the warriorish classes were really a step up from knights, so I stuck with that due to familiarity until ninja were available.

    When you do switch classes, you also don't want to do it to more than 2 members due to the period of weakness you have until you gain a few levels of your new class.

    As others have said, scholars suck pretty badly. They're basically just for one dungeon.

    Evokers are too unpredictable. Neither are a replacement for white or black mages.

    Anyone who says scholars suck is blind. The game gives you a ton of those use to cast a spell items for a reason. When A scholar uses one its an insane amount of damage, even if its not the enemies weakness. If it is, it can one shot them.

    Even at the end of the game, you get LOADED with these items and they rape. The only thing I replaced my scholar with was a Sage. Their melee isnt half bad either.

    Just keep a monk, you get the upgraded monk class way too late, and monks get such huge bonuses to damage by the time thier class level is high enough. You will get a few new weapons late that will pretty much put the monk over the edge.
