Does anyone else think it sucks that the impressions sounds like no one knew about the game from a year ago, and that it's only getting attention now that it's on the HD consoles? Or is it getting the extra attention because they might have been shown at E3 and I'm reading too much into it?
It's nice that game is getting more attention, but from what I have heard, neither Gamestop or EBGames is going to stock PS3/X360 version. Shame really. Still, Crave has been pretty happy with the sales.
I'm so glad that the game is getting more attention! I'm going to be picking up the 360 version for the new tables alone.
I get a little sad that this game doesn't receive a lot of attention, even this thread is like a year ago, is only five pages and has constantly fizzled. On one hand I feel like I should just let it go but on the other I want to talk about pinball damnit!
Do you think there would be an interest when the new game comes out if I or someone created a new thread with say a PA highscore list in the OP that could be updated?
A little Off-topic but on the topic of pinball: I found out a local place has 14 pinball machines, so I've got to check that out. Although it's in a tattoo parlour so I feel like I'd be awkwardly out of place and would feel like a huge nerd to walk in there to play pinball.

It's not like they stocked the Wii version, from what I could tell. I eventually found it at Target. In the bargain section. Not even locked up, like the "real" games.
i was at this bar the other day and they had circus voltaire and a couple bally tables id never seen before (popeye and some pool themed one i forget the name of). i got pretty excited when i saw pinball tables i hadnt played before that werent made by stern.

Cirqus voltaire is possibly one of the hardest but most awesome pinball tables out there. Seriously, I love that one almost as much as twilight zone.
The Achievements list is out, and they're very vanilla except the last one... which, considering what it means for one of the tables, I can't stop laughing at.
Jive Time is the last unlockable, doesn't have any Achievements, and isn't part of the Williams Challenge. They turned a joke into a punchline.

Does that mean Jive Time isn't accessible at the start and you are unlocking its accessibility, or is that simply unlocking Free Play on it?
.....actually, the latter wouldn't make sense, since you get to pick which table you unlock for Free Play when you earn all the table goals on one machine.
....Unless that's changed in the PS3/360 versions. Hmmm....I can't wait to see how it plays out.
Nonetheless, that is too funny. It makes me wonder which version has the harder Williams Challenge. The version with more tables, or the version with Jive Time as a part of the challenge.
Slightly OT: I found a couple more pinball machines. A Playboy machine (the 2nd one I've seen) and a Simpsons machine. Simpsons was tough to play because I couldn't really see the table because of the lighting around me, and the flash from the power plant bumpers was really bright. And then there's the ball dropping a lot faster than you could flip it up. I'd probably try it again saying this first time playing it was just a bit of bad luck.

Listen -- and this goes for everyone in the thread -- if you're ever flying into or out of Calgary International Airport, do yourself a favor and get there a couple hours early, or get picked up a couple hours late. The main concourse is peppered with arcades, and each of them have five to eight machines (the arcades are actually called "Flippers"). Off the top of my head I remember Pirates of the Carribean, Rollercoaster Tycoon, South Park, Elvis, Junkyard, Simpsons Pinball Party, some older casino one, and Lord of the Rings. Some of them are even set for Tournament Play.
What's the deal with the release date for the 360/PS3 versions? I've seen it bouncing all over September, with different retailers listing dates that are weeks apart. I ultimately preordered it from Newegg, which listed an either incorrect or street date-breaking 9/9/09.
It looks like both PS3 and 360 versions are listed as in-stock now.
[edit] Yup, got ahead of myself. It was an order confirmation saying that they'll ship it out soon. But this should mean they do indeed have it in the warehouse.
Oh man, of all the threads I've said the following, I thought I put it in here as well.
According to my local (Canadian) EBGames, PS360 versions should be out on the 24th. Basically, between the posts above and my own experience, the release is SOON!!!
I'll admit I only asked about the 360 version, but I see no reason why the PS3 release date would be different.
Given the somewhat niche-these-days nature of pinball, I suspected the porting budget might be a little limited. Indeed, the Wii origins of the game are visible in places, with the standard-def intro movie and Wii-HD-esque arcade menu. There isn't even an XMB background or sound when you have the disc highlighted. Also, triangle-as-back-button is just... a strange choice.
Fortunately, it looks like they saved the major upgrading for the tables themselves. It does appear to actually run natively in 1080p on the PS3 [edit: remember, most games on HD systems run in 640p or 720p], and once you load a table, the high-res playfields look fantastic.
Being a digital pinball native with pretty sparse real-world experience, I can't really comment on the fidelity of any of these tables to their physical manifestations, but I guess most of the pinhead reviews for the Wii version were pretty positive on that front. What I can say, however, is that what I've played so far is a lot of fun.
What was there in the Wii version has ported over beautifully and looks delicious. But the new stuff's a little shoddy:
-- Leaderboards are poorly implemented. You can only access them from the title screen and you can't sort them by Top Score or by Friends. And you can't quickly page through the leaderboard to see who's number one, so if you're in 900th place, prepare to scroll for a while. Yeah.
-- The camera angles for the new tables are too zoomed-out and packed into the bottom of the screen; since all three tables are the first in this collection to have dot matrix displays, I suspect that, at some point in development, the table's display was supposed to be visible at the top of the screen, or maybe even on the virtual backglass itself. Arabian Nights is fine, but Gofers and Medieval Madness are eye-squintingly bad.
Still, I would have bought this even without the new tables, and hopefully this stuff will get patched. To that end, I'd suggest that you e-mail Farsight studios and tell them you're concerned -- I'm going to do the same.
I did end up buying the 360 version. My local best buy and gamestop didn't carry it, so I had to order from Amazon. This ended up being a good thing, since Amazon was selling it for only $30.
To answer my own question from the last post: was it worth buying even though I already owned the Wii version? Absolutely. Medieval Madness, No Good Gophers, and Tales of the Arabian Nights are all late-model tables in the vein of Funhouse, Whirlwind, and Taxi. Those tables were where I spent the majority of my time with the first game, the others were more like novelties. So even though the game only adds three tables, I'd argue that it is effectively doubling its content. Medieval Madness in particular is a gem.
The core gameplay is as good as ever. Ball physics are good, and the game looks and sounds accurate. The HD graphics are a noticeable upgrade over the Wii version, and the analog stick offer more precision nudging than waggling the Wiimote did.
Max22's criticisms are accurate, however. The leaderboard sorting is particularly disappointing for me because competing against my brother was one of the aspects of the game that got me most excited. Without a friends leaderboard, comparing scores is no easier than it was with the Wii version. I'm actually kind of surprised that this capability isn't part of Microsoft's certification standards for 360 games.
The camera angles can be changed, but the game won't remember your choice for next time and will continue to default to "unplayable" for all the new tables. Worse, you can't change that camera angle until the ball is in play, so the first game of every session is a frantic struggle to get the camera right between the ball launch and the time it reaches your flippers.
Oh, and not only did they keep the annoying "virtual arcade" setup for choosing your table, but they actually expanded it! Now some tables are off in a "back room" in addition to the ones "upstairs". Someone over there is clearly disconnected from reality.
So in sum: great game, but a lot of little issues that remind you it's a budget title. Absolutely worth the money just to be able to play Medieval Madness.
Holy freaking crap, you're not kidding! I had hoped things would pick up with the newer versions out, but damn. And we really do need to make a high score table considering how (poorly) it's handled in them.

I don't really mind the arcade style layout. What seems odd to me is that they changed the locations of previously existing tables. Taxi used to be the very first table you come across, but in the PS360 versions, it's Medieval Madness that's there, and Taxi is moved to somewhere else. I don't know why they didn't just add some to the upstairs section, and anything left in the back room, and left the rest as it was.
In other news, in addition to the tables I found near me that I mentioned in previous pages, I've recently found a Getaway table. Holy crap that thing is fast. But seeing a high score in the 600+ million or something like that just makes my 20 million or so games seem so insignificant, or it makes the value of the points seem almost worthless. Maybe that's just me. Still had fun with it.
I do hope they can patch the leaderboard system to something approximately as usable as the one in Zen Pinball.
In other news...
15 million on Whirlwind!
Go ahead and put that up on the BRAND NEW AND SHINY LIKE A PINBALL HIGH SCORE TABLE IN THE OPENING POST! Be sure to use the format I've done with my scores. I'm actually curious to see how each system does since they all have their own unique controller.
I hope no one minds the title I've given the high score table. :P I'll gladly change it if people find it a bit over the top, even for PA.
Anyway, I also finally completed all of the wizard goals in Whirlwind. I'm about to tackle Space Shuttle now. The only thing I'm missing there is the 4.5 million score, and I'm sure that'll happen with enough time.
Edit: I'm an idiot who had a brainfart and just realized I'm the only one that can edit the OP. So just post your scores and I'll edit them in.
Nicely done, BTP! I'll have to check my scores when I get home.
In other news, is / has anyone going / gone to the Chicago Pinball Expo this week / weekend?
It's really something else. If you live within driving distance, it's worth it even if you're only a moderate fan as I am. While I'm not into the whole collecting/restoring/tournament scene, the fact that a $15 show-floor-only registration gets you an evening's access to a lovingly-curated collection of probably about 130 tables covering a huge variety, all on free play is just amazing. My pinball knowledge probably went up 5000% in three hours.
That sounds awesome. If you're going, take pics and post them.
Played some more tonight, and after several sub 1 million point games in Space Shuttle, I finally broke the 4.5 million point wizard goal and have all of those done. You really need many multiballs AND extra balls to get that. I nearly hit 6 million with (technically speaking) Ball 1. I then paused the game with Ball 2 waiting in the plunger because I had to eat, and then after getting back to the game I just lost that and the next ball pretty quickly. Final score: 6.211,940. Woohoo!
And I just completed my remaining Wizard Goals for Firepower!
Needed to get an extra ball, and the 50,000 point Firepower bonus. I've had that 50,000 point light at the top lit up tons of times, but I still have no idea what I needed to do to collect it.
Not only that, I broke the scorecount. (I think the term is "flipping"?)
I think I'm on a roll! I should go after Jive Time's goals right now. :P

Damn you Jive Time! Damn you and your 10000 point bonus from the spinner goal!
I FINALLY got that damn goal...........but with the double bonus......meaning I got the Wizard Goal version of that goal...........and since the game needs to end before I earn the Wizard Goals, I'll need to do that AGAIN!
Taxi: 8,548,650
Gorgar: 445,590 (I haven't even beaten the top two default scores on this...)
Space Shuttle: 6,022,870
Firepower: 1,988,250
Black Knight: 3,544,350
Funhouse: 36,613,680
Jive Time: 103,610 (one default score still on top, but I don't really care)
Pin*Bot: 4,441,840 (two default scores left to beat; this board hates me, as much as I love it)
Sorcerer: 3,558,830 (two defaults left)
Whirlwind: 53,783,960

I FINALLY got that damn goal...........but with the double bonus......meaning I got the Wizard Goal version of that goal...........and since the game needs to end before I earn the Wizard Goals, I'll need to do that AGAIN!
DAMN YOU JIVE TIME!
I WILL NOT BE DOING 3DS FOR NWC THREAD. SOMEONE ELSE WILL HAVE TO TAKE OVER.
