How do you get vomit out of a mattress?

There was vomit on my bed (gross) and I wiped it up (gross) and washed everything but it soaked through to the mattress apparently and I need to get the smell out. I've attacked it with clorox clean-up to no avail. I'm hoping the answer isn't "buy a new mattress." Please help.

There is probably nothing you can really do at this point. I'd just buy a new mattress because it's not something you should really skimp out on. You will have to sleep on it everyday.

Maybe you can dunk the entire mattress in some vat.

Vinegar worked in my buddies car, but the car smelled like vinegar afterwards, so not much of an improvement. And lots of febreeze.

If you just want the odor gone, you could cut it open and put some Lysol stuff or something fragrant in the guts. Otherwise, you can't really get anything that has seeped in without soaking the entire matress (which risks spreading it rather than cleaning it).

Flip it over and start looking for a new matress.

Call a carpet cleaner, they usually have good ideas about how to deal with stuff like that and can answer your question in a few seconds.

Take the mattress outside, turn it over, and pour very hot water, with a bit of disinfectant in it, over the place where the sick was, so that it is washed back out - this worked on a friend's mattress when her disgusting cat had peed on it.

Ugh, this is not what I wanted to hear, a mattress will not be in my budget for at least a month. BLARGHH. Oh well, thanks for the tips, I'll try this hot water thing tomorrow.

Yes, start with a process like this. Then let the mattress die in the hot sun!

    This process works wonders.
