List of things that might be fun:

    Daft Punk
    LCD Soundsystem
Hercules and Love Affair (in particular the song 'Blind')
    Cut Copy
    Junior Boys
    The Sunshine Underground
    Goldfrapp
    Soulwax

    Hip/Hop type Rap
    Mickey Avalon
    RJ/D2
Aesop Rock (None Shall Pass is a great track)
Swollen Members (Too Hot is an awesome song)
    Spank Rock

Hopefully something here helps. (Listen to Podly, I know nothing!)

I'd suggest the newest Roots album, a lot of great tracks on it. 75 Bars is amazing and a half.

Isn't it possible to make playlists such that they sound like a live DJ? I mean, obviously it'd have to be a pre-set list, but I think there's software that lets you blend them together so that it's not just one song after another, right?

I guess what I'm wondering is, is the song selection the only thing that a DJ does that can't be automated yet?

DJing is a whole lot more than blending the end of one song into the beginning of another. For instance, I generally don't introduce songs from the beginning unless it's famous, and a lot of times I tease the most popular songs three or four songs in advance. If you want to hear what a DJ really does, just listen to girltalk: it's basically exaggerated DJing.

Yes, for people with feelings beyond "bitter" and "cynical" anyway. And by that I mean people who are ill-suited to law.
