The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Dark Days is a documentary that was released back in 2000. It followed a group of homeless people's lives for a year, living in an abandoned area of New York's subway stations. The called it Freedom Town, and it was a shithole full of interesting homeless dudes who lived it rough, son.
The director, Marc Singer, had lived among these people and even had them pitching in to help shoot the film.
It is simultaneously the most depressing and most uplifting movie I've ever seen.
Also: This is full of music from DJ Shadow
Any time I start to feel real shitty about the way my life is going, I think "Man, I got it good. I ain't homeless. Fuuuck that."
When I was in New York I knew there had to be abandoned sections of track that they probably were living in. I mean from some stations you could see other ones below you and way in the distance in the darkness you could see entrances leading off to other even darker more abandoned sections.
You know what's depressing? That this dude lived with them for a year and went through all the trouble of making this and yet no one's ever heard of it. Good on you for making this thread at least.
There was a book about these people by some woman claiming to have lived among them for a year. Apparently her book is full of inaccuracies so who knows. Possibly a lot of it is just urban legend. There are people living down there for sure but the author described it as an ordered society according to the wiki.
Unless someone pays them money to fight each other, I'm not really interested.
I have a pretty tasteless sense of humor, but by God every bit of me wants to put a bullet into the heads of the fuckers who do that and put it on DVD.
heavily regulated fighting with people who trained for months and doctors at the ringside totally the same thing as exploiting desperation for profit yeah
From what I see in the trailer, it's a "Look it's homeless people, look how they live. Look how they're just like you and me only in cardboard boxes".
I don't really need to watch something like that unless it's for some sick fascination. It's not going to make me a better person or get me to pull out a 20 any quicker each time I see one on the street.
I'd rather see how the richest people live personally; find out what they do exactly in order to tip the scales in their favor. I caught a good glimpse of their methods from watching the Enron documentary. But people seldom talk about that.
They usually just talk about their needs and interests pertaining to their day to day lives. They'll talk about global warming before poverty because, hey, global warming affects everything and most importantly ME!
If you're getting the feeling that I'm a little disconnected, yeah, I am. I'm not going to sit here feeling sorry for the homeless when there's society as a whole to blame for it.
But, I fear this paragraph's wasted on most of you.
Here's something completely different:

When you think about the shit you bitch about, and see this ending you immediately feel like a stupid and foolish bitch.
Alternatively, you may feel awesome and laugh about the ending because you're on the winning side of capitalism.
