How should I format a volunteer resume?

I'm employed and now I'm looking to do some volunteer work for a new Jewish museum springing up in Philly (which BTW looks to be baller... 5 stories, 100,000 sq. ft., all glass facade, etc.). Apparently a lot of people are interested and so they're seeking out:

a: a letter of intent

b: a resume

I figure the letter of intent (something I've never written, so feel free to educate me) is just an "I want to help because I'm a good person and this looks interesting" kind of thing but I'm not sure what they want with the resume. Job experience, skills, schooling etc. I assume. What about the objective? That's what I'm worried about. The old "challenging tasks with space for gainful movement" thing doesn't seem to fit. I was thinking something like:

Objective: placement in an environment conducive to my skillset. I hope to be faced with exciting and challenging goals that will augment the local community.

Thoughts?

letter of intent = cover letter. 3 paragraphs on why you are interested, why you are awesome, and how they can contact you/when you will contact them. There are a tonne of guides online

objective "to gain new skills and help the community through volunteer work" or something like that could fit. conducive and augment sound unnecessarily large-wordy
