SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES SHIP DATE FOR INFINITE UNDISCOVERY
INFINITE UNDISCOVERY is Unchained on Xbox 360: September 2, 2008
LOS ANGELES (May 21, 2008) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that INFINITE UNDISCOVERY™ for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will ship September 2, 2008. The first in a completely new lineup of Square Enix titles for Xbox 360, this fantasy RPG (role-playing game) is a collaborative project with fan favorite development studio tri-Ace Inc. (STAR OCEAN® and VALKYRIE PROFILE®).
“With the simultaneous release of INFINITE UNDISCOVERY, Square Enix is entering an exciting new period of delivering great gaming experiences to our fans all around the world at the same time, creating new global communities,†said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix, Inc. and Square Enix, Ltd. “This is something that we have aimed to do for a long time and we look to continue to deliver worldwide gaming experiences across all platforms well into the future.â€
INFINITE UNDISCOVERY envelops players in an engaging real-time world where every decision you make leads to a myriad of discoveries and affects every encounter. The developers that set a new standard for RPGs by fusing exploration with battle in the STAR OCEAN series establish a new benchmark for the genre, perfectly integrating traditional tri-Ace elements with the technological power of Xbox 360. The experience is enhanced with a soundtrack by composer Motoi Sakuraba from the STAR OCEAN and VALKYRIE PROFILE series.
GAMEPLAY : DISCOVERY & IMPACT
Every discovery and action that players make has an instant impact on the world, creating an unpredictable gaming experience.
Situational Battles
As players are faced with a variety of episodic situational battles, they will discover that they may have to try various methods to defeat the enemy, where the most obvious solution is rarely the right move. Players can assemble parties from a pool of 18 characters, choosing those with the best combination of abilities for the job. Snipe distant enemies with the help of a bow-wielding ally or skilled magic user. Based on each player’s decisions, the intricate environments will offer a variety of experiences, presented in a way never before seen in RPGs.
A Seamless World and Real-time Action
Players are drawn deeper into the world as each act becomes more crucial to survival. To make careful decisions and advance, players will need to rely not only on sight and sound, but also scent.
Combat, exploration and other actions will all take place within the same environment, seamlessly shifting between each game facet.
STORY
Known as the throne of the gods, the moon rested peacefully in the heavens.
Man enjoyed great prosperity by harnessing the power of the celestial body.
Until one day...
A sinister force ensnared the moon with chains and fastened them to the surface, bleeding the life from the planet. The enchained lands were transformed into withering wastelands, and their once carefree inhabitants now lived in fear. Behind the world's plight were the Dreadknight and his menacing horde, the Order of Chains.
Deep in a forest, in one of the Order's prisons, a young boy named Capell was being held captive. His captors called him the "Liberator," though he had no clue as to what they meant. On the third day of his imprisonment, he was rescued by a spirited young woman named Aya. She was a member of a small band of brave warriors who had gathered under the banner of Sigmund the Liberator to free the world from the iron grip of the Order.
Upon meeting Sigmund, he was surprised to find a man who shared his very face and appearance. This meeting would change Capell's life forever and shake the foundation of the world itself.

To be fair, the intent of the title is supposed to refer to discoveries which have yet to be found and that there are many perhaps a infinite number of them.
It works with me.
If one wanted to Discover Finitely they would be looking at the wrong place.
That said, I'll buy it. I don't mind having another RPG for my 360.
Then they should have called it "Infinite Discovery."
Infinite Undiscovery sounds like you are continually "undiscovering" places that have already been found, so that the number of "discovered" places decreases as the game goes on.
Sort of like the film Memento, in which the story is told in reverse chronological order, so that the viewer's knowledge of what is coming chronologically both informs and is informed by the later parts of the film.
I'm on a caffiene and sugar high, so I apologize if I'm not making sense. I swear it all makes sense in my head.
Maybe I'm just hung up on the double negative in the title.
Edit: Also I'm mildly annoyed that the 360 is getting yet another exclusive RPG title, while the PS3 keeps getting generic crappy shooters that hold no interest for me. I'm going to strangle the next EBStop employee who tries to get me to preorder Haze.
I CANNOT UNDISCOVER INFINITELY WITHOUT USING LOTS OF MP
And this game seems really awesome, can't wait to play it.
DEMO PLEASE!
Perhaps. I get what you mean though (it's been the first thing that always comes up with IU topics). Still what's in a name anyway.
Something wrong with Arching Boots and Innuendo Dive?
"PEACOCK BLUE!"
"INNUENDO DIVE!"
Win.
My apologies, as this was the first I'd heard and didn't realize there were previous topics. Like I said, I'm a little bitter about a profound lack of PS3 RPG action.
But...I don't think so.
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
But this is really strikingly ugly, compared to, say, FFXII, which did far more with the PS2 for crying out loud. It's an art style thing rather than a power thing, and this game's just extremely bland. No, no, wait.
Offensively bland.
That said, I'll keep my eye on it. Surely there'll be some twist to the formula that makes this interesting.
I'll probably get this once it drops in price, but I'm willing to bet that this was a rushjob from Square Enix execs so they can go "look! We made a 360 RPG and you people don't want them!" and stop worrying about it.
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
That said, INNUENDO DIVE

It's cool. It's still early in the PS3's life span, just got to give it more time. There are some titles which will be coming this year like Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles. Last Remnant is also supposed to be 2008 as well there hasn't been much on for awhile.
SE is only publishing it, this is a tri-Ace developed game.
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
I don't know about bland but I'll give you that the textures aren't exactly top of the line. Just have remember it's supposed to be a completely seamless world so somethings have to give.
I personally like the art.
How do you feel about White Knight Stories or The Last Remnant?
Now if this was done by Tri Crescendo that would be a whole 'nother kettle o' fish.
Only then will I give this game another look.
It seemed to say the gameplay was alright, although even that had some really bad design choices, and everything else is just sub-par to bad. It doesn't sound like a game you'd want to pick up new for 60 dollars, and it's only 20 hours long. I can't say I'm all that surprised, what with nigh zero media coverage until now.
I would still pick it up but with so many good games coming out in the next few months if it isn't all that great I can wait for a price drop.
But anyway....
God I hate reviews like that.
"You know, this aspect of the game is actually handled really well; but it still sucks" "Yeah, the combat is pretty entertaining; but the game still sucks"
Aside from complaining about the main character and the game is "short" (how off your rocker do you have to be to declare a 20-30 hour game "short" these days, when you're lucky if you get 10), the reviewer basically says every thing else is pretty cool. And then proceeds to give it straight 7's.
I realize 7's aren't supposed to be "bad" but on IGN's "scale" 7,s are almost as low as it gets, with 6's being "teh suck".
bleh.
Origin: Galedrid - Nintendo: Galedrid/3222-6858-1045
Blizzard: Galedrid#1367 - FFXIV: Galedrid Kingshand
Crap...quite a couple of sites gave Eternal Sonata an 8...I didn't agree with that...>_>
Still probably end up waiting for it to hit the 30-40 dollar mark.

We already know the rest of this year is going to be full of the really great releases. I know I can't buy every single one I want. I actually have to have some restraint (gasp). And so, a middling to below average game that's full priced isn't going to be on the top of my list. They say combat is fun, but I want more than just fun combat for 60 USD in a JRPG.
Well that generally depends on the genre, now doesn't it? You don't expect 20 or 30 hours for your standard first person shooter. You're lucky to get 10, as you put it. But this is a Japanese RPG. I'm not saying 20 to 30 hours makes a game in the genre necessarily bad or "too short", but with this season as full as it is, 60 dollars for 20 hours for a JRPG doesn't seem as worth it as 60 dollars for 60 hours (Tales of Vesperia), especially if the game isn't all that good.
