SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES SHIP DATE FOR INFINITE UNDISCOVERY
INFINITE UNDISCOVERY is Unchained on Xbox 360: September 2, 2008

LOS ANGELES (May 21, 2008) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that INFINITE UNDISCOVERY™ for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will ship September 2, 2008. The first in a completely new lineup of Square Enix titles for Xbox 360, this fantasy RPG (role-playing game) is a collaborative project with fan favorite development studio tri-Ace Inc. (STAR OCEAN® and VALKYRIE PROFILE®).
“With the simultaneous release of INFINITE UNDISCOVERY, Square Enix is entering an exciting new period of delivering great gaming experiences to our fans all around the world at the same time, creating new global communities,” said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix, Inc. and Square Enix, Ltd. “This is something that we have aimed to do for a long time and we look to continue to deliver worldwide gaming experiences across all platforms well into the future.”
INFINITE UNDISCOVERY envelops players in an engaging real-time world where every decision you make leads to a myriad of discoveries and affects every encounter. The developers that set a new standard for RPGs by fusing exploration with battle in the STAR OCEAN series establish a new benchmark for the genre, perfectly integrating traditional tri-Ace elements with the technological power of Xbox 360. The experience is enhanced with a soundtrack by composer Motoi Sakuraba from the STAR OCEAN and VALKYRIE PROFILE series.
GAMEPLAY : DISCOVERY & IMPACT
Every discovery and action that players make has an instant impact on the world, creating an unpredictable gaming experience.
Situational Battles
As players are faced with a variety of episodic situational battles, they will discover that they may have to try various methods to defeat the enemy, where the most obvious solution is rarely the right move. Players can assemble parties from a pool of 18 characters, choosing those with the best combination of abilities for the job. Snipe distant enemies with the help of a bow-wielding ally or skilled magic user. Based on each player’s decisions, the intricate environments will offer a variety of experiences, presented in a way never before seen in RPGs.

A Seamless World and Real-time Action
Players are drawn deeper into the world as each act becomes more crucial to survival. To make careful decisions and advance, players will need to rely not only on sight and sound, but also scent.

Combat, exploration and other actions will all take place within the same environment, seamlessly shifting between each game facet.

STORY
Known as the throne of the gods, the moon rested peacefully in the heavens.
Man enjoyed great prosperity by harnessing the power of the celestial body.

Until one day...
A sinister force ensnared the moon with chains and fastened them to the surface, bleeding the life from the planet. The enchained lands were transformed into withering wastelands, and their once carefree inhabitants now lived in fear. Behind the world's plight were the Dreadknight and his menacing horde, the Order of Chains.

Deep in a forest, in one of the Order's prisons, a young boy named Capell was being held captive. His captors called him the "Liberator," though he had no clue as to what they meant. On the third day of his imprisonment, he was rescued by a spirited young woman named Aya. She was a member of a small band of brave warriors who had gathered under the banner of Sigmund the Liberator to free the world from the iron grip of the Order.

Upon meeting Sigmund, he was surprised to find a man who shared his very face and appearance. This meeting would change Capell's life forever and shake the foundation of the world itself.

The brand new trailer can be viewed exclusively today at:http://www.gametrailers.com/game/5501.html. Additionally, starting this Thursday, the new trailer will be available in full HD on the
Square Enix members site at http://member.square-enix.com/na/.

INFINITE UNDISCOVERY is not yet rated by the ESRB. Please visit the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) website at www.esrb.org for more information about ratings.
INFINITE UNDISCOVERY will be available at North American retailers for the suggested retail price of $59.99(USD). The official website can be found at http://www.infiniteundiscovery.com/.

No word about EU release but it seems like it could be a world wide release. The VA in the trailer is some lulz "Innuendo Dive!". It's also synced to the jp voices it seems.

To be fair, the intent of the title is supposed to refer to discoveries which have yet to be found and that there are many perhaps a infinite number of them.

    It works with me.

If one wanted to Discover Finitely they would be looking at the wrong place.

That said, I'll buy it. I don't mind having another RPG for my 360. :)

Then they should have called it "Infinite Discovery."

Infinite Undiscovery sounds like you are continually "undiscovering" places that have already been found, so that the number of "discovered" places decreases as the game goes on.

Sort of like the film Memento, in which the story is told in reverse chronological order, so that the viewer's knowledge of what is coming chronologically both informs and is informed by the later parts of the film.

I'm on a caffiene and sugar high, so I apologize if I'm not making sense. I swear it all makes sense in my head.

Maybe I'm just hung up on the double negative in the title.

Edit: Also I'm mildly annoyed that the 360 is getting yet another exclusive RPG title, while the PS3 keeps getting generic crappy shooters that hold no interest for me. I'm going to strangle the next EBStop employee who tries to get me to preorder Haze.

I'm normally far from a graphics person. If it has a good story or fun system, I'm down with that.

But this is really strikingly ugly, compared to, say, FFXII, which did far more with the PS2 for crying out loud. It's an art style thing rather than a power thing, and this game's just extremely bland. No, no, wait.

    Offensively bland.

That said, I'll keep my eye on it. Surely there'll be some twist to the formula that makes this interesting.

It. Doesn't really seem like it.

I'll probably get this once it drops in price, but I'm willing to bet that this was a rushjob from Square Enix execs so they can go "look! We made a 360 RPG and you people don't want them!" and stop worrying about it.

It's cool. It's still early in the PS3's life span, just got to give it more time. There are some titles which will be coming this year like Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles. Last Remnant is also supposed to be 2008 as well there hasn't been much on for awhile.

I don't know about bland but I'll give you that the textures aren't exactly top of the line. Just have remember it's supposed to be a completely seamless world so somethings have to give.

This game looks interesting. The only part of the trailer that I didn't like was how the characters call out the names of their attacks/techniques when they use them. I don't know why developers put that in their games. I hope the game as the option of turning that off.

IGN review is up. Apparently it pretty much sucks (well, mediocre, but compared to all the awesome games that are out and coming up I really can't afford any time on mediocre games). Which makes me sad because I was quite looking forward to it. I hope they'll release a demo so I can try it for myself, if the gameplay is fun enough I might still get it despite the terrible characters and meh story.

It seemed to say the gameplay was alright, although even that had some really bad design choices, and everything else is just sub-par to bad. It doesn't sound like a game you'd want to pick up new for 60 dollars, and it's only 20 hours long. I can't say I'm all that surprised, what with nigh zero media coverage until now.

I should preface by pointing out I really haven't followed this game. I have an interest in it and I love me some tri-ace so I'll likely pick it up. But other than that I have no real emotional vestment in it (aside from the fact that it's a JRPG on the 360 so I hope it does well enough to get more companies to do so)

    But anyway....

God I hate reviews like that.

"You know, this aspect of the game is actually handled really well; but it still sucks" "Yeah, the combat is pretty entertaining; but the game still sucks"

Aside from complaining about the main character and the game is "short" (how off your rocker do you have to be to declare a 20-30 hour game "short" these days, when you're lucky if you get 10), the reviewer basically says every thing else is pretty cool. And then proceeds to give it straight 7's.

I realize 7's aren't supposed to be "bad" but on IGN's "scale" 7,s are almost as low as it gets, with 6's being "teh suck".

    bleh.

It may just be me, but in general, it seems like IGN review scores are almost entirely indicative of the game's technical merit (graphics, audio, how many features does it have, how long is it, frame rate) and have very little to do with how fun the game is.

I'm really waiting on other reviews. Haven't paid much attention to IGN in years, though it does give me pause. I trudged into the wasteland that is NeoGaf because I was curious, and supposedly 1up is giving it a B. No clarification, just that the review is going up later tonight. Then the thread fell into a flamewar over whether or not it's going to the PS3 or not, and how much better it will be on there. How... how do people read that place?

Part of me wants this bad because I want a new JRPG for the 360 and I have fond memories of Square-Enix RPGs from the past two generations, but then I'm torn about tri-ace working on it. The script and voice acting in Star Ocean 3 was so grating that I couldn't even finish that game.

When reading IGN reviews, I don't really pay attention to their score and so forth. We all know they're horrible at that. I was just looking for solid, non-contradictory facts about the game, and they did make some good ones.

We already know the rest of this year is going to be full of the really great releases. I know I can't buy every single one I want. I actually have to have some restraint (gasp). And so, a middling to below average game that's full priced isn't going to be on the top of my list. They say combat is fun, but I want more than just fun combat for 60 USD in a JRPG.
...how off your rocker do you have to be to declare a 20-30 hour game "short" these days, when you're lucky if you get 10.

Well that generally depends on the genre, now doesn't it? You don't expect 20 or 30 hours for your standard first person shooter. You're lucky to get 10, as you put it. But this is a Japanese RPG. I'm not saying 20 to 30 hours makes a game in the genre necessarily bad or "too short", but with this season as full as it is, 60 dollars for 20 hours for a JRPG doesn't seem as worth it as 60 dollars for 60 hours (Tales of Vesperia), especially if the game isn't all that good.

It's all relative though. ToV could be 6,000 hours for 60 dollars but I still wouldn't touch it with a stick. And some of the most awesome RPGs of all time are around the 30 hour mark, like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Tear Door.

It really depends on what you're doing. In my opinion there needs to be more 20-30 hour games. 60+ makes it way too hard to go back to it after you beat it.
