Why are there no threads that cover titan quest? Is it really that bad? I started playing it and so far everything is a step up from Diablo 2.

I played Hellgate London for a short period and was quite dissapointed. So why is the Hellgate London thread so popular for a game that could have been Diablo 3 but fell short... very very short.

Because Titan Quest is pretty short and most people play a illegally downloaded version (the developer went bankrupt, or so I heard) and don't come online.

So yeah, it's mostly a small single player game from a while ago.

Because, honestly, TitanQuest wasn't as good as everyone said it was. It's not nearly as good/addictive as Diablo 2. Nothing about it (except the graphics) is a step up from Diablo 2.

It's a good hack and slash, and ALWAYS gets recommended when someone's looking for one... But there's never enough meat to warrant an entire thread about it.

I bought it on the recommendation of people in this forum. I like the game play and graphics but the story and world are kind of disappointing me. If you ever want to play, I legally own it on Steam and my SID is Regicide

if the gameplay / graphics are good then i would expect modders to take care of the rest. Especially in this case where the developer is out of commission.

I'm just starting it up 2-player LAN and it is absolutely awsome. I have heard complaints if repetativeness but I really can't see how that differs fro Diablo's repetativeness

Is this your first time playing it? It starts out great, but once you beat the game... There's really nothing left. It seems that after you kill a boss, you can't go back and kill him again for major phat loot. He drops some loot, but it's generally worthless.

yah, it's my first time playing it

I thought you were supposed to play the next difficulty after completing it. So far the game is pretty easy but I hear the the 3rd difficulty is when things get really tough.

Oh you can, but I was wearing items that were 10-20 levels below me, so I decided to try and get some good ones.

    Apparently I was wrong.

Maybe it's been patched, but the entire loot system is what drove me away from the game. I found a sword I used for an entire two acts of whichever. The random loot that gets dropped is just.. odd and not right. It just didn't fill me with the desire to collect more of it.

    Shame.

That was a conscious decision by the developers. They thought grinding a boss for loot was a boring way to play a game so they lowered the quality of loot dropped by bosses and increased the quality of loot dropped by regular enemies.

If you really want to get a lot of good stuff, there's a mod that multiplies the number of enemies by 3.

In any case we already have had like 2-3 threads on TQ. General concensus is that it was a pretty decent Diablo clone. Never played it myself, I've been hoping for a decent Sci-fi take on the genre ever since "Restricted Area" came out and didn't come with proper online support.

and this is what should make this game great. a MOD for people who want more loot. A MOD for people that want the game to be more difficult (lets you start nightmare difficulty at level 2). The possibilities are endless and you don't have to settle for Diablo2 graphics. My friend and I actually started a Diablo2 game before this (he had never played it) and he couldn't get over the outdated graphics.

Bah mods. I don't think the developers should be leaving stuff like that up to the mod scene. Fix your own game first before assuming that the mod scene will take care of it (STALKER, I'm looking at you... You son of a bitch!)

Different situation. That is a mod of a game that was actually a fleshed out game.

Most of the things you guys are talking about are just simply adding one or two things to the game that should have made the final release, but didn't.

Actually, at least one of the bosses could be farmed quite easily, albeit rather cheaply. In Egypt, touch the rebirth shrine at the Fayum Oasis, then go up to the northeast and kill the scorpion king guy. Loot all the chests behind him (including at least two Majestic Chests), but *don't* touch the quest item on the altar. Then quit out to the menu, and reload. You still have all of the items you looted, because the game auto-saves, but all of the enemies have respawned, including the scorpion boss, and all of the chests have been re-filled.

There are only a dozen or so enemies between your respawn point and the boss, so it takes maybe 5 or 10 minutes to blitz through the run, including the time it takes to quit out and reload. There's even a merchant right in the Oasis for you to sell your junk to.

I picked this game and its expansion up a couple months back, to possibly satisfy my diablo2 urges.
I'm about to install for the first time, and am overwhelmed by the number of class combinations/masteries.

Can you vets of the game recommend me some paths to go down?

A bit about my preferred playstyle:
-I liked the skelly-mancer and tesladin from D2, becase they were solid performers through all levels of difficulty with MINOR hotbutton swapping.
-I like a relaxed style of play, with very few hotbutton swaps for skills - simplicity reigns supreme.
-I hate ammo. HATE carrying ammo.
-I don't mind guzzling hp/mana pots in the early game, if the payoffs for the class really shine in late-game.
    -I love vampiric attacks and/or self-regen over time items/spells.
-I love pets/summons, but are not required

    Suggestions?

I tried finishing this twice and both times I burned out somewhere around the hanging gardens. Second time was hilarious though, went with a pet build and pretty much just spent all the time picking up loot while my wolves and lich went nuts on everything. The trick was to summon extra beyond the normal limit with one of the powerups.

Good news; I don't think anything in TQ requires ammo; bows are D1 style.

I haven't played enough to give you a perfect recomendation, but I'm going with Warfare+Dream. Dream gives you regeneration+health leech+thorns+a summon, and warfare turns you into a hard hitter.

I have chosen to make a Spellbreaker (sp?). This is warrior/spirit masteries and should allow for plenty of vampirism

The problem is that something with the itemisation doesn't give that same sense of "Must gather more stuff! More and better stuff!" that D2 gives. Somehow D2 had a perfect sweet spot of progression, comprehension and complexity. Getting a +40 strength sword or something made you go "SWEET", even if it wasn't for your class.

Titan Quest has great art direction, and amazing graphics. And I hope you meant the great art direction Diablo has, not Blizzard in general. Otherwise, I might have to start posting Burning Crusade screenshots.

Its not nearly as good as D2 as a game, though. It suffers from making you want to play Diablo 2 instead.
