Boy, that sure paid off for us.

In this thread we bemoan our home team, unless it's the fucking Rays.

We have a fantasy league going, so discussion might sometimes lean that way.

Colon gets his second start tonight, and with a higher pitch count we should get a better picture of how far back he is.

Eat like El Guapo, win like El Toro.

Depends entirely on the bats. Fat Fatty should survive his 5-6 IP no problem, but if King Felix is on you ain't gettin' squat.

Webb was bound to start running out of steam sometime, this just seems to be it. I tried moving for him in another league after his last start and was told

This season has turned me into a Goddamn junky.

I can't wait for Daisuke's starts to see how many walks he can give up and still get the win, even though I know it's bad for my health.

    My over/under for the season: 95BB, 18 wins, 180IP

Sounds like he's similar to the Todd Jones Experience. He had two away yesterday and I joked that he would walk the next three batters.

    Should probably shut my hole.

So, I don't really follow much baseball but I can't help but notice that the Mariners suck pretty much every year. What is a guy like Ichiro doing there, really? Is his contract escapeproof or something?

He's under contract with them until 2012, worth $90m, though 20m of that is deferred. I imagine he has a no trade clause, so there's no way to move him unless he wants to, and I guess he likes it there, especially with the strong Japanese population. A place like Arizona or Cleveland probably isn't very exciting to him. They also weren't too bad last year even if they fell short in the end. Who knows, maybe they'll turn it around this year.

He signed an extension last year through 2012. The club is partly owned by Nintendo, and having a Japanese player presence on the team is important to them, so they gave him his money.

    Also he is hideously overrated.

Goddammit Chicago, why do you always have to do well in the regular season so I get my hopes up and then tank in the playoffs? Why??? Can't you just suck consistently and be done with it? Counting this year, it's been a fucking century since the Cubs won the World Series. You'd think that would be enough for me to pick a new team, but no. I am a baseball masochist.

Anyway, I haven't been following too closely this year; I've been watching the college playoffs. Have I missed anything utterly spectacular? Does everyone still hate the Yankees?

Cheering for the White Sox would make me feel like even more of a traitor than cheering for any other team. Besides, I can't abandon the Cubs just because they lose. Ryne Sandberg was my hero when I was a kid; I can't turn my back on his team.

Philly just unloaded on them, 20 runs on 19 hits. And of course a former Royal was on the recieving end of the shelling, good old Jorge de La Rosa got nailed for the first 6 runs. Josh Newman also put in a stellar performance allowing 6 earned in only 2/3rds of an inning.

Sure, there hasn't been a lot to root for in our very short history, but I'd never root for another team just because mine hadn't been playing well. That's pretty low.
