Blasted corrupt memory cards!

So I go to play some Soul Calibur 3 on the old PS2, and lo and behold, my save files are corrupted. Eight years worth of stuff over two cards is just... gone. Complete games of FFX, FFX-2, the .hack series, lots of other RPGs... goddamn it!

Are the cards still good, or is there a chance that the data will end up borked again in the future? PS2 memory cards are getting kind of sparse.

This happened to me once and I had to get a new card. It sucks, but there isn't much you can do about it.

I believe Soul Calibur 3 is notorious for memory card errors.

I didn't know if this was widespread, but SC3 fucked up my ps2 saves too. Shit, it had my first MGS2 save from launch night. Now rendered useless.

There was that Viewtiful Joe 2 demo that erased all of your saved games.

Yeah, SC3 is pretty notorious for corrupting saves. The memory card itself is probably still ok, you'll just have to wipe the whole thing and start from scratch.

It sucks losing saves, though. One time I was saving my game in Breath of Fire III, and the power actually went out right as the "Do not remove memory card or shut off power" text was up. The rest of my saves were ok, but I had to start over in BOF, which was not fun considering I was like half way though.

I've never lost a save on any RPG over 20 hours.

I've lost my SSB:M save a good four or five times though and it takes a damn long time to get everything back in that game. :P

True that. I was like 12 when I got my PSX, and I decided that I would save a few dollars by picking up a Nyko brand memory card. Well, you all know where this is going if you've ever owned a Nyko product. A few months later Final Fantasy VII comes out... sadness ensued.

I also lost 20 hours of Final Fantasy XII data last year.

Also SC III is in fact notorious for corrupting memory cards.

It's up there with the VJ demo.

Memory card lessons seemed to only be learned the hard way.

Yep; just wanted to pop in to say that SCIII is much well-known for corrupting the memory cards.

Me? I'm lucky in that I logged many many hours into the game and never had it fuck up a memory card.

Although I think that people figured out that there's something that the player does that increases the likelihood of it corrupting saves, but I don't remember what it was..

    Oh well. Create-a-Soul was awesome.

edit: For the record, I've never lost a save on any game ever*. And even though I don't, I still occassionally back up my "important" save files onto a separate card.
    * except due to dead backup batteries
