Beanie Babies

A friends mom was an obsessive collector, died, and left her with a ton of stuff.
Like probably a literal metric ton.
Boxes upon boxes of which are filled with Beanie Babies. I know we kinda missed the bubble on selling these things, but are any of them still actually worth anything? I'd rather not spend a day and a half looking on ebay for each and every one she has.

Edit: Alright, this is ridiculous. There are 8 Choo-Choo Pooh's, 6 Sleepy dwarfs, 7 Figments, and a few hundred of their little friends. This is beyond beanie babies that are probably past their prime. As far as I know, our options are eBay, craigslist, and an Ebay store *let them deal with this bullshit). ANy other suggestions on how to unload any of this?

If you don't want or need cash, Goodwill will take them, and you'll get a small tax thingy ma bob.

    Bonfire.

They are unfortunately (for your friend) worth pretty much nothing.

Only option I can think would work, take them to a flea market and sell them for like 50 cents apiece.

I never understood people who collected those.

PS - don't actually have a bonfire... they are probably pretty toxic when burnt.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to say. There are a few select beanie babies that will go for hundreds (or thousands... yes... I don't understand people) of dollars on eBay. However outside of this select group, most aren't worth anything. So you can try to sell the whole lot to someone and hope you don't have any of the rare valuable ones and get shafted... or you can spend the time to actually start going through them all and cataloging/pricing. For stuff like this I tend to get pricing by just doing completed auction searches on eBay, but I'm sure they have beanie baby pricing guides available somewhere.

Yeah, a look thru the completed ebay auctions would probably be your best bet. You can stack them by selling price, so you can stop looking when they get too cheap.

Apparently ducks without wings are valuable.

    People buy some dumb shit.

Donate the whole lot to your local Children's Hospital. I am sure some little kids would love to have a cuddly little animal to keep them company during some bad times.

I don't know how many hospitals would be happy to accept a bunch of used stuffed animals though.

If you go this route, be sure to call the hospital first and see if they'll take them.

Most hospitals will only accept new stuffed animals, if they do at all, due to the fact that they're a gigantic magnet for dust/etc.

My mom still collects them, and so do a bunch of super-hardcore crazy people. Depending on what's in the collection, you can almost definitely make some money. Whether it's worth the hassle (how many do you think you have?) will depend on what's in there.

There are price guides out there. I'm serious, these things are like baseball cards for older ladies. I'll talk to my mom and see if I can get some recommendations on what's your best bet for getting some monies with the least amount of hassle.

I know price guides exist, but realistically they're only worth what people pay for them, not what a book says. Thanks for checking up with your, um, sources.

We've talked about donating them to a children's hospital. The toys are essentially new. Like I said, this woman was a collector so everything has a little plastic tag cover. Once we go through the thousand+ small toys for anything worth money, that's probably where they'll go.
And hey, tax discount for my friend.

I want to build little coffins for all seven dwarfs, but the full sets are worth enough for me to not do it.

Are you located in the US, Pixel Blue?

Also, if we are looking for a show or convention to sell at (since you seem to have this kind of experience... I'm so sorry), are we looking for toy shows, stuffed animal shows, beanie baby conventions, or something else by name?

You really can get help on anything on these boards.
