Sore on Leg

So today I noticed that there was a bit of what appeared to be a bruise on my right leg. After getting out of the shower, there was some pink skin showing through, and by scrubbing at it the "bruised" skin sloughed off revealing a pink circle about the size of a quarter. I put hydrogen peroxide on it, bandaged it and went about my business.

It doesn't hurt a whole lot, but there is definitely some discomfort. My father (an EMT in addition to being the classic "knows a surprising amount about everything" dad) said that if there was any pus or discharge, let him know immediately, but otherwise it's probably fine. I'm taking his word for it, but any idea what I'm dealing with here? What could cause this?

sounds like an odd blister, maybe an allergic reaction to something.

keep it cleaned, fresh bandages often, and do not scratch or pick at it.

    Does it itch at all?

It could be a bite from a spider or insect - or it could be an allergic reaction from a plant you brushed against.

Have you been on a hike lately with shorts on?

it doesn't itch, and I haven't worn shorts in ages. It is in a prime position to be the result of some chafing or something (outside of right thigh) but I can't think of anything that could have precipitated this or anytime I've had anything like this before.

could have been that it was just in a often chafed place (like you said) and some kind of thing worked its way into the spot, causing irritation. this can happen with small thorns, or even just a pointy piece of gravel. keep it cleaned and if it gets any worse or starts to look infected see a doctor

Don't keep it wrapped up in bandages too long. That's how you get fungal infections. Keep it clean and dry, but give it a chance to breathe periodically. It doesn't sound like anything major at this point, and you want to avoid making it one.
