Elkatas plays over 40 adventure games. Back to business
This summer I'm going back to my roots, and try to play through forty different adventure games. During this journey, I will write my thoughts about each game, how game now feels, etc. Furthermore, I'm going to also record my gameplay to video, and put videos up to Youtube. Yup, that means I'm going to record around 80 hours worth of material.
I would also like to put comment track on these videos, but my accent is rather thick, and basically unlistenable. Would anyone of guys be interested doing comment tracks for these videos? I'm covering adventure games from side to side, so I'm pretty sure that one of your favorite games will be covered. I don't want to list games here, because I want to keep my list as a surprise for guys who want to follow my thread.
Schedule-wise my first video should be up in 1st of July.
I'd love to help out! I'll be out of summer school by then as well, so free time should be plentiful. This sounds like quite the, ah, adventure.
Excellent. PM me your favorite adventure games, and I will tell which ones are available. Of course, I could give you random game to comment if you feel adventurous enough.
Only 80 hours? For 40 games? Sounds like a low ball estimate. Are you going by the old school 'lucasarts/sierra' definition of adventure game?
Yeah, it is probably low ball estimate. Overall, I believe I can record one game per night. But to answer your second question, no, I'm not going to do only cover Sierra / Lucasarts games. There will be lots of stuff from smaller publishers too.
So this is basically going to be a series of Let's Play, right? Well, first off I'd recommend at least recording yourself talking and make sure that people can't understand or don't like your accent, because for certain LPers, their accents are what they are best known for. Well, or are at least at awesome.
That said, I'd probably like to do some commentary for some games, depending on the games I suppose.

Believe me, it's bad. In fact, my voice is/was so bad that doctors weren't even sure that would I ever talk so clearly that others could understand my speech. These days my voice is clear, but really grating.
I'd have trouble playing 40 games over one year. I'd probably be able to really strain myself and manage that in 2-3 years if I didn't bother with much else.
Seriously, don't you think that's a bit... ambitious? If not outright crazy?
Or are you not planning on playing them all the way through? Because honestly, spending the amount of time necessary to play all those games over the summer just seems pretty nutty, and I do realise I'm saying this on a gaming forum.
Seriously, don't you think that's a bit... ambitious? If not outright crazy?.
Crazy? Most definetily. But to be honest, I will except this leak to the autumn. Furthermore, most adventure games are short (around 2 hours) if you know what you are doing.

Right, I just meant in difference from the console styled 'action-adventure' or whatever type games. They're just the two standbys of the genre.
I am a lover of adventure games myself. I don't think I could manage commentary but I wanted to wish you good luck! Sounds like a hell of a summer ya got planned.
Oh, and I hope Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is on your list. In my opinion, the best damn point-n-click adventure game of all time.
And I would also like to point you to 5 Days a Stranger and 7 Days A Skeptic. Awesome little adventure games that are free! I would link to them but my work blocks all video game sites....except for Penny Arcade. o_O
Oh, it looks as if you have your list already, well, if you have not played those two, and if you can manage to play another adventure game after your MEGA run, I would give them a look.
After June 25 I'm pretty much super-free, so put me down if we're going to be doing it after that.
Okay. Just send me your favorite adventure games that I will check what are on my list. Or if you want, I can give you one of more obscure adventure games.
I'm not sure what you are expecting from comment tracks, but I'd be willing to help if you need anyone else. The only adventure game I finished was The Dig and 5 Days a Stranger, but I'd rather be surprised by something I havn't played through. I don't particularly mind if it's a good game or a convoluted bad game.
Elkatas, that is awesome. Just curious, but are you going to do Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2? Because those are my two favorite adventure games of all time.
I'll help out but I don't know how you plan on doing the commentary. I mean you already made the video so would we record a commentary track as an audio file and just send that to you?

Is one of them going to be Shadowgate? Because I just beat that a couple of nights ago and seriously fuck that game, it's an asshole
I'd have a few words for that commentary

Yup, I will give you link to highly compressed, shitty audio quality video file that contains whole run. Because resolution is so small in most games, most videos come around 60 MB after compression. You watch the video and record the commentary. Then you return the commentary in either MP3 or OGG format. Then I edit / add it to final videofile.
BTW. In which order you would like to see me doing these videos? In chronological order, in order that I originally played them years ago, or in balanced order? With balanced order I will decide order myself so that we don't need to watch too many AGI games in row, for example.

Whatever order you want, I think, since you'll be doing them. I wouldn't want you to get burned out or anything.

This could be fun. I'd love to do commentary for a game I've never played before, just so I could experience it and talk about it with a fresh pair of eyes. Is there a time limit for when we need to get them done once you assign them to us?
I don't have the time (nor the ability to speak creatively or interestingly at length) to contribute, but I quite look forward to this. There are so many adventure games, and I'm sure that I have missed many of them. Cool idea!
I dunno what's on your list, but Loom is a fast one that also is a bit unique in it's gameplay mechanics.

Ah, 3 done, 37 to go. This is going faster than I excepted. BTW, I have this wonderful adventure game on the list that doesn't have any saving graces at all. It's one of the worst commercial adventure games ever made. Who wants to comment it?

You need to do a blog about this experiment. In the name of science!
I will analyze each game when videos goes up. In addition of general summary, I will give each game prize for shittiest and best puzzle. Sierra games will also include most pointless and stupid death.

edit:: if you're divying it up by game, I'll do the leisure suit larry's. (they better be on the list)

There is two of them. It was really hard to decide which ones I should do. Sent PM to you.

The ending is awesome though
Yeah. I would really like to hear what you people think about these games.
Yup, not sure which one though. Either IV or III.
Are you going to do Sam and Max? I love that game.
I never asked for this!
