Resume Help

Hey H/A <3

I'm sending in a resmue to a Tech Support Center sometime in the coming week. I'm going to sit down and start taking a crack at it tomorrow morning since my first class is over with.

Now, I'm currently an assistant manager at a local fast-casual chain which will remain unnamed. I've been doing this for about four months now. I've been working there for two years. I've just come of age about two weeks ago.

About this "Tech Support Center": I've already had an internship there about a year and a quarter ago. I have a weak link inside the building, and have a really good friend who works there too. At the internship, they chose the other person who I was there with because she was of age, and obviously I was not.

The place provides technical computer support for Large Pharmaceutical Companies, etc etc. Now, it boils down to these questions:

  • Should I put this information about me being an assistant manager on there? It's part of a completely different field that I do not want to be associated with (Food Service.) I mainly took the job because that's pretty much the only thing to do around here underage. I'm an adult now, and wish to seek a more rewarding career.
  • I'm extremely proficient in Windows and Linux. Should this be mentioned?
  • I'm also proficient in Java. Should this be mentioned too?
  • I'm also Network+ Certified. Same question.
  • I took a class at a local vocational school for Networking, which is where I got my N+ Cert. Same question.
  • At this vocational school, we also used an online testing website called Brainbench. I have about 15 tests all in the 80%+ percentile. Same question.

I just need some guidance, H/A. This is my first formal resume, and I'm shitting bricks over this. <3

Definitely put down previous work experience, even if it's unrelated. Your job as a manager shows that you can work to targets, have experience managing staff, and all sorts of other general skills that I'm sure these people will look favourably on.

Pretty much put down everything on a resume, because part of it is to show what a well-rounded person you are. You address the position-specific stuff in a cover-letter, generally.
