Input Not Supported? MY ASS.

Alright so basically what happened was, that I started up Call of Duty 4.

But then it went all black and had a message box bouncing around taunting me with the words

"Input Not Supported"

So, I researched some stuff on it, and what I came to conclude is that it has something to do with having the game's resolution too high for the moniter to handle or something to that effect.

But the problem is, I can't get to the options menu for the game. Because right when I turn on my computer it shows the damnable message.

And I was wondering if there was anything I could do, short of getting a new moniter.

Thanks in advance!

Not helpful, but I definitely read the thread title as... something very different!

There's something that looks relevant here, but the guy never responded saying whether it worked or not.

    There should be a config file somewhere roughly around this path;

    C:/Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare/players/YOURNAME/

where you can manually change the resolution. Find the file and look for any settings relating to resolution, and change it to your monitor's native resolution or smaller. I can give you a more concrete answer on exactly where the file is and what to change tomorrow, if you can't find it.

EDIT: I'm just guessing, because most games have config files where you can manually change the resolution. But there might not even be one. If you do find it, don't touch anything besides the resolution, and make a backup of the file before you make any changes.

I'm glad this thread wasn't about what I thought it was about.

This is the instructions for a retail installation of CoD4, but I think Steam has an option to add the required commands too.

    Activition Support KnowledgeBase
To change resolution for the game:
    - Locate the shortcut you use to launch the game (not the game executable)
    - Right click on the shortcut and select properties
    - Make sure you are on the shortcut tab
    - Locate the target line
    - Add the following text to the target line after all the text that is normally there
+seta r_mode "1024x768" (you can replace the resolution 1024x768 with any resolution you want) please note the spacing and punctuation.
    - When you are done the line should look something like:
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3sp.exe" +seta r_mode "800x600"
    - Hit ok, the next time you launch the game make sure you use this shortcut

To change the refresh rate for the game:
    - Follow the above steps but add the following text to the target line:
    +seta r_displayRefresh "60 Hz"
    - When you are done the line should look something like:
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3sp.exe" +seta r_displayRefresh "60 Hz"

If you need to change both settings the line should look something like:
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3sp.exe" +seta r_mode "800x600" +seta r_displayRefresh "60 Hz"

You may need to play with different resolutions and refresh rates to get the game to run:
    Commonly support resolutions are:
    800x600
    1024x768
    1280x960

    Commonly support refresh rates are:
    60
    70
    72
    75
    85

There are other supported resolutions and refresh rates, so you should refer to your monitor documentation and find out what it supports then start plugging those values into the above values.

NOTE: If you choose to change the resolution or refresh rate once the game launches and then use this shortcut later it will revert your changes.

Well, first off, sorry for the unintended innuendo there.

    I'll change it.

Second, When I turned on my computer this morning everything was fine.

I'll just have to check CoD 4 too.
