So my roomy and me got our first HD TV. Now thing is... why the fuck are HDMI cables so damn expensive?
Does the gold plating really help any?
Where should we buy from, so on and so forth.
Also, we're mostly going for sports-awesomeness with all of this so any pro tips there would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
Gold plating is a scam. Don't buy monster cables. There is NO difference in quality.
Buy the cheapest HDMI cables you can find. $10 should be a good price.
Also, Component cables are a good alternative. Personally, I like going with HDMI because of the ease of connecting everything, but if all you have is component then you really don't need to run out and buy an HDMI cable.
Sports awesomeness? As in sports games, or sports entertainment?
TSR: My friend and myself are partial to winning and the winning of championships. Thanks though.
That's cool. My family and friends are partial to not cheating, and still beating the sooners.
Thanks for the advice. I almost went $60 on monster cables at Radioshack. Fucker almost had me!
Don't let those assholes dick you around. They did the same thing to my sister, who bought those $60 monster cables. She's an aggy, so I can't blame her, though.
And don't let people fuck you around with HDMI cables. Just buy the cheap ones unless you need something a hundred feet long or some other strange needs like that. It's a digital signal, which means you either get a perfect image or the cable is defective. It's not like, say, VGA, where very mediocre cables could show minor ghosting or something.
TSR: Oh, well I think consistency is far better than relying on one player and then falling into the shitter again. If the refs get it right in both the Oregon AND Texas games, we're playing for the National Championship against Florida.
Also, cheating? Where does this come from? Dark days during the 80's and all of a sudden we're consistently cheating? I'd be pissed too if we had lost to Texas 6 of the past 8 years, but that my friend is reserved for you guys.
Also: Thanks a lot. The guy was really trying to sell me on those Monster cables. I didn't believe him, but they were shiny and... ON SALE.
The worst part is that Monster Cables aren't even that good.
If you've got money to spend on expensive cables and you actually need them for some reason (sensitive analog connection, very long distance, whatever) buy from BlueJeansCable or something. But Monsters are cheap shit with some gold plating and fancy-looking connectors at an unbelievably huge markup.
If you go to best buy they might get out this fancy box that has various spliced HDMI cables.
"you see what you're buying here with this cheap wire? it's all paper...now look at the monster cable look how little paper is in there"
I wanted to bash my gigantic tv over his head until it shattered with his skull, but the store's 30-day warranty wouldn't cover replacement due to defective employees.
It's not quite as bad as the salesman who tried to convince my female friend that LCD TVs only last a year or so before the backlight burns out and the entire TV needs to be replaced. I bit my tongue so hard it bled; then told my friend that the salesman was a total retard, had no clue what he was talking about, and that I wouldn't trust him to find his ass with both hands and a map.
I finally let loose when he started trying to talk her in to buying Monster Cables. He looked like he was going to shit himself when I asked him what the profit margin was on them.

Consistancy? 3 in the 50's, 2 in the 70's, 1 in the 80's, and 1 in 2000 is consistant? You gonna ignore the 50 years where yall didn't win anything, or the decades that go by between your NCs? If you want consistancy, look no further than Texas beating OU. It's one of our best traditions. We've never trailed in the series.

Oh sooner, always turning a blind eye. It's cute that you've finally ponied up to the cheating days of the 80's, but you seem to ignore all before and all after. Sooners have a long, storied history of cheating - they're currently the NCAA's 4th most infracted team of all time, only trailing aggy in the big XII. However, you've been cheating long before the NCAA cracked down on you in the 1980's. Remember the reason why DKR quit at Texas? I'll give you a hint - Spygate originally referred to the Texas-OU series, not the patriots. Your beloved Barry Switzer even admitted to it. Sooner Magic, a term still used today, was admittedly a code word Switzer used for cheating - paying players, spying on practices, and "stealing players from Texas" as he put it. That covers the 1960's and 1970's.
And hey, why did Rhett Bomar leave OU again? What did AP drive around in again? What's that one automotive dealership called... Big Red Automotives? Yeah, you sure are a clean program.
Joe Pa has a legendary quote about OU. When he was asked to retire, he responded with "Me? Retire? And leave college football to the hands of the Jackie Sherrills and Barry Switzers? Where cheating can become a tradition?"
The quote was from the 1970's. Cheating has been firmly entrenched in OU history. But don't believe me? Go ahead and look up what the name "sooner" means. I'll give you a hint: Land Cheater.
Also: Thanks a lot. The guy was really trying to sell me on those Monster cables. I didn't believe him, but they were shiny and... ON SALE.
Thanks again.
Another thing to note is that while monster cables are massive rip offs, gold-plated cables aren't necessarily trash. For example, if you're looking for a quality component cable, then you'd want to go gold. The rule is that if you're going analog, then gold makes a difference. HDMI is digital, thus gold is useless.
Also, you need to call him AD. As in All Day. As in, he ran ALL DAY LONG on your asses.
That's funny, because he went 1-2 against us and had the lowest numbers of the year against us in 2005 and 2006. All day indeed. I still laugh when I think about how he stood there when OU fumbled for the final time against us in 2006.
It was awesome because THAT VERY PLAY gave us this image:
Shit, every time with you two. Don't make me pull this car over.
We're just giving each other shit about our schools. I like Penguin_Otaku (as much as I can stand to like a sooner) and I suspect he feels the same about me. We're not being serious.

Learn from me G&T. And don't buy fucking monster cables.
i was going to say hit up monoprice and totally ignore jerkoffs trying to sell you "fancy" ripoff cables, but it seems to have been covered pretty well
last time i needed a cable it was a 6' usb extension cable. radioshack wanted about $30 for one. monoprice had it for $1.

How many NCs did AP win? And how many did Texas win during that time? Hmm...
Also, I seem to remember your asshat of a coach saying 2 years prior that "OU plays for national championships. Texas plays in the Holiday bowl."
Say, what bowl did OU play in when Texas beat USC for the NC?

Shut up already.

In all seriousness, gold plating isn't going to really help for your T.V. cables
Mmmmm. Delicious spite.

pfft I don't think you'll do it

Pray I don't show you any further.
