Summer 2008 Animu Thread - NO MORE AMV'S DAMMIT

edited August 2008 in Debate and/or Discourse
New season's here, I'll keep it short and simple and link you to this:

http://blog.seiha.org/?p=900

With that said, here's my thoughts on each of these shows. This is going to be lovely.

Spoiler for vertical doom. If there's anything I'm missing, let me know.
Ikkitousen Great Guardians: It's.... Ikkitousen. Pass.

Telepathy Girl Ran: I'd have to check it out. I hear decent things about it.

Ultraviolet Code 044: This has something to do with that one Milla Jojovish movie, right? Prepare for serious cheese that tries to act like SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Seikrei: Fanservicey superpowar fightan show. Not interested.

Slayers REVOLUTION: IT'S FUCKING SLAYERS! YAY! :D

The Things Precious to a Mage ~The Summer’s Sky~ (Someday’s Dreamers): I don't like Slice of Life. If you do, then more power to you.

Antique Bakery: MAN CAKES

Hidamari Sketch x365: YAWN

Nogizaka Haruka’s Secret: UUUGH.

Strike Witches: THIS IS FUCKING CRAZY. WHAT THE FUCK.

Birdy the Mighty: Decode: It's Birdy~. I'll try it if I'm not too lazy to.

Ryoko’s Case Files: Sure why not!

Zero no Tsukaima ~The Princesses’ Rondo: Ew. Ew. Ew. NO.

Mission-E: Dunno, sounds interesting, I guess.

Natsume’s Book of Friends: Could give it a try.

World Destruction ~ World Eradication by Six People: PROMOTIONS!

Koihime†Musou: Sigh.

Blade of the Immortal: Could be fuckwin. Could suck.

Batman- Gotham Knight: FUCK YES! OVA came out yesterday!

==================================

This thread should also be about (Good) animu in general. We should compile a "Must See" list as told by us. Start listing some of your favorite shows!

No kidding. I've been anxiously waiting for it. This new arc doesn't seem as well executed as the primary ones (I don't even know if this was written by the original author), but it still does the job well. The beginning of episode 15, in particular the part where
a bomb explodes in Nice's face and she screams
raised the hairs on my back. Amazing voice work.

Once I'm done with that, I'm gonna get started on Chiko, which everyone here seems to love. I expect great things.

Let's see if I link it directly... the eyes are supposed to move. And it works like that... weird.

The forum software really hates animated avatars IIRC. I dunno if there's a workaround.

    Works for me. :/

I think the animation is lost in translation if the original avatar is not the forum default 64x64. Try resizing it manually first.

There are two options for setting your avatar. Control Panel -> Edit Avatar, and Control Panel -> Edit Profile -> Avatar URL. Unset the first, and set the second to wherever you're hosting it.

    High five.

Also, along those lines, I just looked up the cast list. Sonken Chuubou (Hakufu's sister/Sun Quan) is going to be voiced by Horie Yui. <3<3<3

I'm not sure if Vampire Knight gets better after the first volume as I stopped reading, but your description is way fucking off if it follows the manga. It was basically a love triangle at a high school with vampires thrown in and nothing at all like Hellsing.

Totally. There's obviously something between them but there's nothing they can do about it, unless it's possible to Macronize humans. Assuming Michael's even human. I think he's at least some part Zentraedi. Those ears are weird.

    Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians

    http://www.suzukisan.info/

    Studio: ARMS

    Genre: Action

    Information Links: ANN Entry

    Premiers June 11th

    Summary:

The continuing adventures the spirits of the Three Kingdoms reincarnated in mostly high school girls.

    Personal Outlook:

You know what, screw all y'all who sit on your high horses and whine about &quotoh no, it has panties&quot while watching for and being happy with the weeky crotchcam of Kallen's cameltoe. I wouldn't recommend just jumping into this series without watching the previous ones anyway, but of important note is A.) Ryofu's back, and she's the best megalomanical aggressive bisexual ever, and B.) Hakufu's sister is voiced by Horie Yui. It's like an Ikki Tousen dream come true. Now we just need the first episode to open with Ryomou vs Ryofu vs Kann-u and I'm ready to declare this one a resounding tour de force.

Aria has absolutely nothing to do with this show.

    Telepathy Girl Ran

    http://www3.nhk.or.jp/anime/ran/

    Studio: TMS Entertainment

    Genre: Mystery

    Information Links: ANN Entry

    Premiers June 21st

    Summary:

A young girl discovers that she has telepathic abilities when she comes in contact with another esper. Together, along with their mutual friend, they suddenly start to get drawn into various mysterious occurances and called upon to solve them.

    Personal Outlook:

The novels that this show is based on are aimed... a bit low on the age scale for my tastes, but it might be alright. Still, I'm not really entirely certain what to expect here. It's airing on prime time, so the production values will probably be pretty decent, but the 6pm timeslot is pretty exclusively reserved for shows that are A.) Gundam or B.) Aimed at boys in the age range of 10-14 to sell toys/the latest issue of Shounen Jump. Besides all that, I'm pretty sure (and by pretty sure, I mean extremely sure) that Kyouran Kazoku Nikki and Zettai Karen Children will still be going and it would take one hell of a showing for it to uproot them.

No, I get that, but when all other Macross material follows DYRL instead of the TV series and Kawamori himself has said he doesn't really care about continuity, it gets a bit confusing.

Don't worry, it's all Kally's fault. He was probably secretly getting married.

Man I wish I they would release more episodes already... I can't watch the damned thing on youtube and it's pissing me off.

Is that a studio officially Youtubing the episodes eith subs? I actually find that idea impressive. I don't watch much animes though.

It'd be more impressive if they were making shows that people wanted to watch. ^^

And by "people", you mean "you", the only person that counts in any of your statements.
