So, I recently purchased a LG Flatron 22 inch Wide screen Monitor for my PS3 in order to play games in HD and watch Blu-Ray movies. After setting the display up (connected to the PS3 via a DVI-D to HDMI cord) and setting the PS3 to display in 720P, I noticed that all of my games (GTA4, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword), looked, well, almost as bad as they did on the SD display. All of the games appear somewhat blurry and present a great number of "jaggys" in almost everything. I've tried setting the display mode in both 1080i and 1080p, but I just get a black screen with an "out of range" message on my monitor. What I know is if there's anything I can do to remedy this, or if I'm just stuck with this image quality on this monitor. Oh, and as a consolation, Blu-Ray movies still display crisp and clear.
Does it have black bars at the top and bottom? Y'know, since your PS3 is outputting a 16:9 image and your monitor is 16:10.
Thanks for posting, btw. Maybe I might go ahead and get a 24 inch monitor instead to avoid this (should scale better, I think)...
Just get a monitor that does 1:1.
Yeah, but the max picture you can get from a PS3 on a 1680x1050 monitor is 720p, which is 1280x720 pixels, I think. At 1:1 pixel mapping, that means a (physically) very small picture with huuuuuugeee black borders.
If the monitor has an "aspect" mode, it'll scale the image up. You'd get the proper aspect ratio but it'll take up more of the screen. However, there will still be some blur or jaggy-ness due to the fact that it is stretching the image a bit.
