The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
so i'm taking a trip to the District of Columbia in the middle of June, and aside from drinking a lot in Adams Morgan, i need suggestions on things to do in our great Capital.
and i already know about Dupont Circle for "things to do" shut up.
problem is, i've already seen a lot of stuff in DC already and am out of ideas.
i have been to our nation's phallus:
i've seen the cute pandas here:
i've visited this dude:
and the stuff around his house:
i always go here:
because i am a huge space and planes nerd and love checking this shit out:
and i've walked around this thing a lot:
because my sister worked for this dude for a very long time.
thing is, i feel like i've exhausted all the good stuff to see and don't know what to do next.
SE, what shall i do in DC that's exciting and new?
(also, any of you live in the DC area and will be around mid-June?)
Maybe try to catch a show at the Black Cat or 9:30 club? I think sloane and rilo kiley are coming in june. Also, walk around chinatown. Shitty compared to ny or other major chinatowns, but its within walking distance of the big tourist attractions (unless you're a fatty).
Nats game might be a good time too. you hear me, NAC?
catching a Nationals game is pretty good idea. i'll be around from the 18th to the 22nd, and they're playing the Rangers. that'd be a fun game to watch.
the nats stadium is gorgeous, no bad views. plus the food is awesome, though pricey. make sure to get something from the red, hot, and blue stand near the entrance.
Also fun story about DC. Once on a trip with Oberlin's Collegium, we went to Dc. And we saw some Wine outside some department of commerce building. A case of wine. Just sitting there. So we go to the aquarium, and were thinking "huh, wonder why there's some random wine out there"
So on the way back, we find it.
So we of course take a bottle. But then in the evening we realize that oh crap we don't have a corkscrew when we get back to the hotel.
So we start looking for different ways to open it. We eventually take a screw from the wall, screw it into the bottle, and then using a Key for leverage, open the bottle.
Then one of the chicks drinks like, half of the bottle and the rest of us were barely buzzed.

It was still awesome.
the Air and Space museum is seriously awesome. their exhibits are getting really old, but for some reason i enjoy going back and playing with the same sciencey stuff over in the hands-on areas and just walking through the space modules and flight models. most of their exhibits are literally from the late 60s/early 70s. i really wish they would get more funding/interest.
I'm going to second the Nats game, also definitely go to Arlington Cemetary and see the changing of the gaurd to be somberly impressed.
I love the mall as much as the next person, but there is a ton of crap outside that small block of land. 9:30 club is a good start and Black Cat is outstanding, as lostwords already said. Old Town Alexandria has a nice river walk area on the Potomac and tons of shops and restaurants. Dr. Z is the man to ask about that, but I like Chadwicks for good food.
If you get on the G.W. Parkway heading south from Alexandria, you come to Mt. Vernon which is gorgeous and all historical like.
Hains Point is good for views of the river and airport, but Gravelly Park is a must for anyone who likes planes. It's about the closest you can come to a landing airliner without being inside it.
If nothing else, I am here, and I am the very root of all that is awesome.
I live in DC. Apart from all the touristy stuff, kayaking on the potomac is fun. Spend the day in Georgetown and head to the waterfront (in g-town) and rent a kayak. It's cheap, easy, and a lot of fun. And good exercise as well. When you're done, the AMC theatre is right there too so you can go watch Narnia
You should check out the Air & Space Museum Annex, FF. It's outside of DC a ways, but from what I've heard, totally worth the bus ride.
I really liked the American History Museum, as well as seeing the House and Senate in sesssion, but I'm a dork for that stuff. There's always the Spy Museum, as well (they hadn't finished that when I was in DC, so I don't know if it's any good or not).
If you haven't been to the newer Air and Space museum out near Dulles International, it is definitely worth the trip out there if you can make it. I'm pretty sure admission is free, as with most of them, and I think parking is pretty cheap.
Of course, this would be easier if they would finish that damn metro line that they have been talking about for fucking ever.

Buy it a corvette while you're at it.

nothin more romantic like havin America's Phallus in the backseat.
t Than: i walked by that Spy museum last time i was around. it didn't seem interesting enough to warrant the cash, but i should probably give it a go.
the annex sounds like a great idea too.

She, like him, did not have the mental capacity to think of this.
