So I was sending off something for Goozex and wanted to verify his address. I type all my addresses in google maps to make sure it actually "exists" (shipped something off once that didn't exist and had a pain getting ahold of them). But that's not the point.
The point is that Google Maps has a new feature. Street view.
What is it? Well, go to google maps ( maps.google.com ) and type this city in: Brookfield, IL and hit enter. When that comes out click on street view. Yeah, they give you a picture of the street/house/park/whatever. You can also pan around and see around you.
This is great because I'm absolutely terrible with directions, and being able to see the place I'm going to would help me out immensely.
If you look the streets with the blue border have the option to show you the street. I zoomed out to see if my city had it, but alas it doesn't. So GnT, see if your house is on there!
If this is common knowledge, then I apologize. If you think this would be better in Moe's Technology Forum then please move mods. I thought this was neat and wanted to share it with you guys.

Old news is news.
But yeah, it's pretty cool.
It's pretty cool though, if you aim the camera down, you can see the car/ mounted camera thing they use to take the pictures.
Most of them come with links to the actual location on Google maps so you can see that they're not fake.
And I think there's a drug deal captured somewhere.
I can guarantee you one thing gentlemen, when I see one I shall moon it.
For posterity and posterior.

I laughed at that.
You won't do it!
I'm amazed that there's one down the street where I work. It's like a half-mile long culdesac. Why bother turning down that street?

Yeah the kid falling off the bicycle is the best. They took that image out though... But you can see him 2 frames before he falls, and he's hauling ass down the side walk, then two slides after the "original" you can barely see him sprawled out on the floor.
Looks hilarious.
edit: Lol, I'm also on it walking to class. Why did I not notice giant googles stalking me?
So you wouldn't have happened to be sending a copy of Bully for PS2, would you?
Please god be it, please god be it, please god be it...
HAHAH, no I'm sorry. It was GTA:IV. That would have been awesome.
It really is brilliant if you want to get a good look at some location that you're about to drive to and you want to get an idea of what it looks like on the street.
The other cool thing is just picking a place and taking a virtual tour of it. The google maps even cut right straight through my old college campus, it's pretty cool.
My home, though? Not street-level imaged. yet.

I don't think wreckage makes for good photos.
Too soon...

So uh, have you been to New Orleans lately?

But yes, I think it’s a pretty cool feature.
“No babe, I wasn’t at the Strip Club” … “That’s not what Google’s street viewer says”
Especially since they're building over in Counciltucky.
I don't understand how it violates their privacy. I can find exactly where they live and how to get there if I type their address into Google Maps. This is no different. Really, it helps people like me that are more visual than anything else.
lol extreme and all, but couldn't a thief use the street view to plan which house to break into?
Yes. And now I have a new past time. I will find all the houses that have open windows while they aren't at home.

I don't see how it can violate their privacy. The tort of invasion of privacy is broken down into 4 main parts, and the only ones that I can see even remotely applying in this situation would be either intrusion of solitude or public disclosure of private facts. The former requires a certain expectation of privacy by the person, secondly whether there was an intrusion (can be electronic). A person obviously has expectation of privacy within their own home, but I doubt a reasonably prudent person would consider the view of the outside of the home from passersby on the street to be 'unreasonable.' The latter tort, public disclosure, would require that the images taken of the house to reveal private facts that would be offensive to a reasonable prudent person if made public. Again, unless you can see someone standing naked through a window in the shot, I doubt that there's anything in these people's googlemaps images that reveals any facts that could be considered private, and if private, at all offensive to the reasonable person.

That makes me a sad panda.
I wonder why people still use mapquest anyway.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha
I stand by my previous statement.
No mention of Leeds though.

Edit:
Where I was hit by a car on a dark and misty night over 12 years ago.
The view I had while going in and out of conciousness. The nice people from those apartments brought me a quilt. It was such a comfortable nap while the ambulance came.
The actual story is that Mr. and Mrs. Boring (yes, that is their real name live on a street marked Private Drive, and they felt that the Google Streetview cam was invading their privacy by going down a clearly marked private road and providing the entire world with 360 degree photographs.
It makes sense, but they're probably overreacting. Then again, they're the Borings.
There was a lady who wanted a map of part of Paris the other day at the library, so I brought up Google Maps and was surprised to find that street view had been implemented around there too.
