The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I'm in it. Many of you are probably too young to remotely give a shit about it.
Specifically, I'm in the Public Administration (M.P.A.) program at this fine institution.
Personally, I find it interesting, but in a more detached sort of way. While I get that having a Master's will increase my marketability and allow me to apply for positions in Higher Ed (where I work now) that will demand higher salaries, I'm just not particularly invested.
I'm thinking of applying for an MBA starting next fall, possibly in the States but if I am shooting for the moon (aka INSEAD) then I will end up in Europe.
That all depends, however, on how the rest of the year goes in terms of helping me decide between an MBA or a Master's in Psychology (the latter of which I pretty much have to get in the States because my undegrad degree was in Finance from here).
Still, I have to do the research as to what programs I'd be interested in.
None thank god.
I can get a plenty decent job with a bachelors thankyouverymuch!
I seriously envy people with non-science degrees sometimes. I know they'll have to get through way more school to get a job but dammit they never have to take Ochem.
Trillian on
They cast a shadow like a sundial in the morning light. It was half past 10.
I got a decent job with just my B.S. in Microbiology, I have fleeting desires to take the GRE and try to get into grad school. But then at other times im just really not that motivated to do it. Although I would really like to get my masters (and my Ph.D while im shooting for the stars) in Evolutionary Biology.
I'd feel bad for anyone going for MD or assundries if we go to socialized medicine. Then you won't be able to rape the system anymore and make ridiculous monies. SAD FACE!
My friend did pre-law and Vanderbilt, and is now studying at Harvard law. He's just gotten done with his first year. Really smart guy.
Anyhow, he was freaking out because of how difficult Harvard was (ha, go figure). But he's now working a 30-hour-a-week summer job and making $2000 a week. I'm pretty sure that he's cool with his decision to do law school now. He's basically going to make my entire year's salary in three months.
oh, badass! are you there now? I'm not sure what his masters was in, but I know he's doing his Ph.D. in MRI research
he was probably mostly compsci and math at brown, if I know him at all
his name is jadrian and he has a bitchin' moustache
ahahaha he sounds a lot like some of the CS people i know. so many people went to that department cause of the good jobs ahead and Andy van Dam's reputation. too bad the internet bubble burst, but those people i keep in touch with seem to be in good places now. i'd guess he's gonna be the same. CS is ridiculously well supported at Brown. math, notsomuch.
i graduated back in '05, and i was squarely a humanities person by the time i left. haven't really been doing the alumni thing since, either...

very cool, dude
when jadrian and I were dating and he wanted really badly to transfer to brown, we went to visit providence and look around -- seemed like a cute town, did you like it?

Originally my plan was to go on to get a phd in Physics. I never really gave it much thought and didn't know what else to do. Now? I'm trying to figure things out so that I don't have to do this. Can't see much fun in going into a position in academia.

Firefighter = best career evar.
It also involves a strange amount of physics. If you get technical, anyway.

fuckin Hahvahd.
do you know if he ever read One L?
I have no clue. To be fair, he was pretty miserable there last year. But I'm certain that he is not regretting his decision now.
I'm starting my Master's in the fall in Information Assurance. It's a broader scope Network Security degree. I'm doing it online through Capitol College and I'm hoping it's not going to be a horrible horrible joke. (The only reason I'm doing online is that I love the job I have now, but I need to advance out of the less than 30k/year range, so this allows me to keep the job for a few years and still acquire some more skills, I hope.)

Wouldn't you be better off getting a real masters from a real accredited school? It would be real.

i finished grad school at the beginning of the year

Ph.D. in underboob gifs?
the job market has a high demand i hear.

geography
i considered a phd, but really, i don't plan on teaching full time, just as a part time gig in conjunction with my real job, then maybe teach full time when i retire
i was in school a very long time, switching majors and all, having a family and life in general stretched it out to about 10-12 years of constantly being in school in some form or another
Starfuck on

Online schools scare me. That shit is to new to be taken that seriously. And what prevents one from just googling every question on a test?

Now you are out of a job.
(It's like getting a promotion the easy way.)
I have to admit that deep down inside I hope that this will get me a job as the Pagemaster.
see law is just a bachelor degree over here, which must be pretty weird from your perspective
I mean, i was 17 when i first started studying law
Nope, my job will be around as long as people keep chugging down gallons of soda each and every day.
somehow he's also in his second year of his ph.d. as well
