alright, so this isn't one of my normal hyper-detailed threads, but it is worth talking about. Anyone who's ever followed MK knows that the classic trilogy is notorious for having left over crap in the game. I remember years back when Gamepro posted rumors about files for Sonya and Kano being left in MKII... they were full of shit. But what most people don't know is that there ARE left over bits of data which have never been seen.

Thanks to (ugh) Pachuka, I come bearing never-before-seen screenshots:

(And so is he)

I have to admit, he's done fantastic work uncovering some amazing shit. Hopefully more will come from this as he's recently made his notes available.

Man, back in the day those female fighters would have been smoking hot.

I'm glad we've come a long ways, and have discovered the wonders of jiggle physics.

So is this a precursor to a new fan game, or just tinkering with what's been left hidden in the old games?

    These are in the game.

Cloud and Mist appear to be very, very early betas of Chameleon and Khameleon.

Incidentally, bits of Chameleon have been found in UMK3.

I love all the ins and outs of Mortal Kombat (as well as some of the hilarious glitches, especially in the more recent games: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=A-egksufiao I can't view it properly at work but if that's the one I think it is, it's hilarious)

Which game is this? MK 3 or Trilogy?

I remember being younger and trying for about 6 hours straight to unlock Ermac on MK1 (by trying to get a double flawless victory and perform a fatality in the circle of the stage preceeding the pit). It clearly wasn't going to work!

Just curious, anyone here play MK2 online via PS3? (I know its a glitched out POS, but still fun I think)

Ermac was in MK1? I know Reptile was hidden in the pit (needed to finish a guy when santa crossed the moon or something in addition to flawless victories?).

I thought he was like 50 continuous wins in MK2 or something. Or was that Noob Saibot?

What's Pachuka up to these days? Last I knew, he was in jail.

Anyway, I guess this is pretty cool.

Ermac wasn't, it actually stood for Machine Error or Error Macro or something along those lines but that still didn't stop rumours from flying around! In fact I believe that's where the character came from

This kind of stuff is part of why I was obsessed with the MK games. I loved the idea of all of this hidden stuff.

I was never a huge Mortal Kombat fan, but I always find the idea of people finding new easter eggs and leftover data lovingly nestled in game code fascinating.

Yup. If I remember correctly, it was basically created by EGM. I'm not sure if they started it, or if a nerd with too much time on his hands doctored a screenshot to show a red ninja in order to dupe EGM (they had a rumors section written by Quarterman, or something along those lines, where people could send in rumors), but EGM ran with it.
