Have everyone write down three surprising things about themselves, two of which are true, and one of which is made up. Each person, in turn, reads their list and then the rest of the group votes on which "fact" they feel is the "false" one. If the group does not correctly pick a person's made up "fact", then that person wins. A group can have more than one winner. At the end, the whole group votes on which of the "winners" of the final round, had the most deceiving "fact". This helps people get to know and remember their colleagues.
Pair off, five minutes of explaining the plan, five of each person talking to the other person and learning about them, and then one person has to introduce the other person to the rest of the group. Each little introduction should take no longer than two minutes.

I've used the polar bear bit I heard from Naporean on these very forums. It has worked every time but it is certainly a YMMV sort of thing.
"Do you know how much a polar bear weighs?"
"Enough to break the ice."
The timing of delivery is ridiculously critical.
edit: Wait are we talking about these people meeting or are you yourself doing the ice breaker?
Thanks Crashtard, I think I'll go with that unless I hear better.
Willeth, that's good, but I think I prefer something that might be more funny, and involve the whole group at once.
Shogun, I'm in charge of the icebreaker whatchamacallit, but everyone will be participating. I had to go to one a few months ago where we got to hear someone read the lyrics to a Rod Stewart song, so I don't think the bar is set too high...

Then yeah you want something that involves everyone. Mine was for more of a one on one introduction. Good luck let us know how it goes!
I printed up some pages to use Crashtard's idea, but then the meeting got started late and we skipped the icebreaker. At least I'll have these in a drawer for the next time this happens. Thanks guys!
whatever you do, never ever make people dance. One of my classes, our presentations had to have 'icebreakers' at the start... worst idea ever, making people dance infront of others and make fools of themselves
The most fun icebreaker was being put into a group with other people (class of just over 30, so groups of 5) and each person was given an envelope with shapes from construction paper. You weren't allowed to ask for the shapes from another, nor take them, they had to be freely given.. had to make 1 square per person by swapping pieces, but without being able to ask, just had to offer them. Then there was a second level with harder pieces to use, but you could ask to use pieces etc. from your team mates. It sounds a little corny, but it was pretty darn fun
