I haven't had good luck freezing non foods in my home freezer. However, I used to have unlimited access to liquid nitrogen which will freeze damn near anything. It will not feeze cloth/denim unless it's soaked in a liquid first.
That gum will be like ice though.

Edit: Also, if you don't own a small woodshop you could try the scrubber side of a sponge. Probably won't be as effective though.
I also heard of people using peanut butter, but I don't know how that would work.
