Guy gets hit by a car, people gawk and look at him but nobody does anything. Eventually a cop car drives through the area and sees him then calls for help.
just last night, just last fucking night, i am sitting on my computer and i hear a car crash outside, i drop what i am doing, grab my cellphone, toss on my shoes and go see if i can help
it was a fender bender, everyone was fine, no big deal
but holy fuck people
have some god damn principles
i mean i don't even have an emotional impetus towards moral conduct and even i know the right shit to do
a couple of months back i was walking from my apartment to meet up with a friend and encountered this guy who was lying on the road next to the sidewalk. his head was bloodied up, and there was more blood on the ground next to him.
a couple of other random passers-by came up, and we all started asking the guy if he was alright, and what had happened. he seemed like he was intoxicated, but seeing as he may have also hit his head badly, there was no way to be sure. i called 911 right away.
i can believe the shit in the CNN article did happen, but i can't fucking believe that such a thing is common all over north america, or at least the U.S.
it is my belief that television and the internet are partly to blame
more accurately
it's how these entertainment mediums are desensitizing people to both human suffering, and actual interaction.
media culture is socializing people into being viewers, more than anything else
they stand and watch because they don't know what else to do, and a lifetime of TV has taught them that when something important is happening you have to stay tuned.
Yeah there's been a study, when there are a lot of people who witness something like this, the individual chances of someone calling the police go down since most people assume someone else will take up the responsibility.
A person alone on the street who witnesses a car-crash will almost certainly will call 911.
A crowd of people witness the same crash and sometimes nobody will call because they assume someone else has got it covered.

we also had people walking past a woman who was stabbed (I think) in a convenience store, and people even took pictures of her on their cell phone

This would surprise me if I hadn't seen stuff like this before. My first time in Las Vegas we tried to get a bus ride but the bus had hit some guy and the guy was lying under the bus. No one would help him at all. We wouldn't help him either but we were certain that at least the bus driver had phoned it in. (and besides I was like 12 and my parents didn't want us near there).

He was exercising his constitutional right to lie in the street his taxes paid for.
First motherfucker cop to touch him would have been slapped with the biggest age-discrimination lawsuit ever.

I should look for that article. I don't remember what state it was in, but I remember it was on the national news networks.

there are also plenty of rapes that were either heard or witnessed and no one did anything
seriously some people just do not give a shit about anyone but themselves

Roberts said his initial angry reaction was based on what he saw in the video. "The video was very graphic and sent a very bad message," the police chief said. Watch the impact and the bystanders' failure to act

when i was in high school i was at this party.
and at this party there was this group of chicks. this group of chicks, for reasons unknown to me, hated this other chick at the party.
so they ambushed her in one of the bedrooms while the party was kickin' downstairs and locked the door and held her down and beat the fuck out of her and ripped out some of her hair and chopped the rest of it off and tore her clothes and shit.
just messed her right up.
and apparently at one point the one girl plugged in a curling iron because it was their intention to jam it in her cooch but it was broken or something and didn't heat up.
during the party, nobody heard screams or anything because the music was too loud and nobody gave a shit to check on anything, not even the dude whose place it was.
anyway, apparently the girls decided if they couldn't burn the inside of this girl's vagina with a hot curling iron they were going to rape her with a high heeled shoe, so they did that and then they went downstairs and tried to find a dude who was willing to rape this chick.
first dude they asked though they were joking, second dude was like "man, leave me out of this shit", third dude was like "WHAT THE FUCK I AM CALLING THE FUCKING COPS"
and when he went to do so the bitch freaked on him and called him a narc and made a bunch of drama and there was a bunch of dudes who didn't want him to call the cops because hey man we got weed and booze and X here we will get busted maaaaan don't be a narc.
and then the dude whose house it was ran upstairs to see what the fuck was going on up there and saw the girl on the floor as this crying beaten up bloody mess and he called the cops finally.
One time I broke my wrist after tripping into a cement staircase, right by a busy intersection.
I yelled for someone to help and I watched as people drove by looking at me and even had a few people laughing
it took like 5-10 minutes before someone finally responded and took me to the hospital

Also, there were like three times in the space of about two months where I encountered turtles trying to cross the road and pulled over and carried them across so they wouldn't get run over.

Absolute truth.
It is so fucking good.
Then he stopped and climbed on top of the car and started taking off his clothes, and threw his shoes at a UPS truck.
I figured the police would want to know about it, so I called 911 to tell them.
