1. So I bought a Samsung lcd tv (Samsung 32" LE-32a656A1C/XEE, to be specific) and I'm looking for the power button...
You can obviously put it in standby mode by using the remote like with any other television. However, you should also be able to actually turn it off. The manual says to press the power button on the right side of the tv, on the panel. That does nothing - so, eh, anyone else got this tv, or another 6 series Samsung? Do I have to actually kill the power at the power switch each time?
If yes, there's no reason not to, right? That would be better than always leaving it in standby overnight, etc.?
Yeah, this seems like a really odd questions, but the power button mentioned in the manual just doesn't do anything. The other touch screen-like buttons on the tv itself work (sound, channel change, input mode, whatever) but the one that should allow me to turn off the tv, rather than just having it in standby mode, just doesn't work, or isn't there.
2. Also, what's the best way of cleaning an lcd screen? slightly damp cloth, wiping in one direction, then making sure it's dry?

Personally I used a type of static cling cloth that attracts dust, before that I was using a camera lens cloth. I found that when I used a damp cloth I ended up with streaks on the screen. (maybe I wasn't doing it right xD)
CUZ THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE AND IT'S GIVING ME A RASH
Just for some info, here's CNET's test on TV power consumption. Good tips on reducing usage as well.
As for cleaning, got to a store or glasses (spectacles?)or photo shop and buy a microfiber cloth.
With the remote you can only put it in standby, with a light on, yeah. The tv itself has a touchpanel interface which the manual claims includes a power button that can completely turn off the tv, but either that button is defective on my tv (the other touchpanel stuff works), or they didn't include that feature after all, which would be rather odd.
There shouldn't be any problems in keeping something on standby, of course, I just think it's odd. I can always cut the power at the power switch if I need to be gone for a longer period, which I'd do anyway.
Thanks for the cloth advice all.
Unless you are flipping a physical switch, you aren't shutting anything down 100%. Put it in standby, then flip the power off at the surge protector.
