I need to download a freeware program to remind me of appointments with a pop-up window, but I don't download much free software off the internet. Is there anything I should know in terms of not downloading something with a virus etc.?

I remember using Chameleon Clock a long time ago... I am pretty sure it runs on a free trail basis:

Currently I use something called "Computer Alarm Clock" which is pretty simple, the free version unregistered allows you to make one appointment:

If you download something from, say, cnet.com, it's likely that it's not infected and it's not a trojan or overt spyware. However, the best software to download and install is something released under an open-source license, like the GPL or the BSD license. This pretty much guarantees you won't get nagware that pops up constantly asking you to upgrade.

A great open-source calendar with pop-up reminders is Mozilla Sunbird. If you already use Thunderbird as your email client, you can get it as a plug-in for Thunderbird called Lightning [1].

    Hope that helps!
