There was a live action one about a bunch of ghosts, I'd imagine one of them possessing a 50p coin would have been a likely scenario for an episode. Don't recall the name though, wasn't rent-a-ghost, much more recently than that but probably mid nineties so I'd only know of it through my little sister watching it.

Nah, this had more than one ghost and no Americans. Did your show have ghosts? If not this is a useless line of enquiry. Were there parents who were aliens? Was it serious or comedic?
I'm increasingly sure he was an alien who had to be kept in his room. Ugh.
Oh, that's ringing a bell. I might be thinking of a US or Australian thing though. There was one, Australian I think, where the boy was an alien living with a family. Don't recall if he could morph or not though.

The Queen' Nose?
No, I should have said that it's not that, because I knew that's the first thing people would think of :P
It was live-action.
Wally may have been an alien, and the id's job was to introduce him to Earth culture. Maybe?

Or Watt on Earth?
Don't know why I missed this at the time, but yes, this is exactly it.
