I had a 360 in late 07. I had to get rid of it. I had CoD4, Mass Effect, FN:R3, the free roaming Naruto game, and Madden. The only game I'm likely to reacquire (because it's the only one I could see 'replaying' despite beating it) is CoD4. The reason I'm making this thread is because back when I had a 360 I played on an old, SD television with color imbalances and severe overscan issues. This time around I have a 24" monitor that has 1:1 pixel mapping and an HDMI port and so can display at higher resolutions. I'd like to know:
a.) the games I missed out on that look great, graphically.
and
b.) the upcoming games that are expected to be good and look good.
So far I only have one idea: Bioshock. I played the demo way back when and it looked unreal, even in SD. Like, jaw dropping. I'm excited about playing this in HD.
Oops, I totally meant to post this in the general gaming section.
Binary: d'oh! I had AC, too- not sure how I could have forgotten that. I agree that it would have looked great in HD, but I beat it and to be honest I couldn't consider replaying it. I found it repetitious just on the first playthrough. Thanks, though, that's a great suggestion.
This is the gratuitously difficult hack'n'slash game, right? Like God of War on steroids? Does it have puzzles and stuff? Do you have to 'purchase' combos and stuff as you progress?
Yeah Gears is amazingly fun and I could co-op through it with every friend or relative who comes over.8-) Good thought.
Question: has the online community for Gears gone to shit yet? I know glitching (like hiding in the elevated ledges on Mansion) was getting prevalent when I stopped playing in early 07, but at the time you could say "can we just not do that shit this game?", and people would usually say "ok, cool". I imagine everyone there now is either super elitezors or glitching without contrition. Is this true? I used to have unimaginable fun, but I get the impression it'd be hard to 'jump into' right now.
Also, will I have trouble 'getting into' CoD4 online right now? I'm not 'good' at FPS'es (I always play through on easy, frankly I don't like dying), and I hear with the leveling system even good players get frustrated by some of the stuff. Will I be able to have fun on multiplayer?
I thought the graphics for Eternal Sonata were amazing, but it's probably not your cup of tea (it's pretty cartoony).
AC's graphics were indeed amazing.
Yeah, probably should have mentioned RPGs totally aren't my flavor. The only reason I got Mass Effect was because the combat was very non traditional, and because it was supposed to be like... the most expansive thing in the history of the world. While the combat did make it more tolerable, it's probably the only purchase I regret. Seems RPGs just aren't for me regardless of the iteration.
What about Oblivion? I'm sure that will look amazing. It does on my PC.
Though you just said you don't like RPGs all that much :P
Yeah I played the PC version and it was like... blech. Part of me thinks "oh man, look at all the cool different stuff I can do! Customization, user-influenced plot, expansive options!" but then I start playing and I want to go to sleep. All of my friends have tried to turn me onto RPGs... when I was 8 years old it was Chrono Trigger, 10 years old it was Final Fantasy 7, when I was 14 it was Kingdom Hearts, when I was 18 it was Oblivion, when I was 19 it was Mass Effect, etc. I really have tried most all of the subgenres and I really can't get into them. I find it quite confusing because the concept of an immersing, long lasting game sounds great, and all of my friends who are huge into RPGs are notorious for making music/movie/book recommendations I agree with... I just can't play RPGs. It sucks.
Halo looks very good on a high def tv...and the multiplayer is still grand, cheating is very minimal too. The colors are just 10 times more vibrant then on a SDtv

Thanks.
And is an awesome game.
And it plays okay, too.

Thanks! Not usually into racing but I'll at least give it a rent. Reviews look good.

Persona 3 is a game you should give a chance. If not for the story, but the music. But hopefully someone else can come up with good graphical games...
Did Army of Two look good? I can't remember. Also, Orange Box.
It did look good, yes. Never got to play it. Is it more arcadey than not?
Very arcadey third-person shooter. And of course, its key feature:
That should give you a pretty good idea of the mindset you should have going into it.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
CoD4
GTA4
All amazing games gameplay wise and with excellent graphics.
EDIT: Also Mass Effect and Bioshock as you already know
The new Prince of Persia may well be the most jaw-dropping game of this entire generation, visually.
Alan Wake looks pretty amazing too, but we haven't seen anything new from that one in so long I'm getting worried.
