So I'm not at all bashful to admit that Anthony Bourdain is a great hero of mine. He's crass, witty, amazingly tolerant, and a great chef.

If you don't know who he is, you have some learning to do!

Anthony Bourdain is:

A Chef, A Writer, A host of two awesome TV shows, and most of all a Chef

He even hates on most of the current Food Network chefs. Which is a plus in my book any day.

And he don't take no one's shit!

I actually really enjoyed a couple of shows I saw that featured him. I happened to be flicking through channels and I saw him yelling at what appeared to be a young coworker(?) and I just kept right on watching, it was so great.

Culinary Arts are so amazing and under-appreciated. Such a unique medium when it's approached as such and flavorful regardless. That being said, I need to see more video with Bourdain.

His guest blog on the Food Network stars is spot on. They need to give Mario his own show again and throw Sandra Lee in a woodchipper.

Mario comes off as a bit of a dick, but he knows his shit and puts together some really good dishes.

Yes I saw all the seasons so far and they are great. I need to pick up his book though. I think it will be my choice of reading while on my 15 hour flight.

Alton Brown is also my hero. But he is not the topic of this thread.

Thats why i like him. Also he gets his ass handed to him half the time, which is equally as wonderful.

I liked watching Molto Mario but it was annoying how every other dish involved some sort of cephalopod that I could never hope to purchase being where I am.

the object of which is to allow every web-fingered geek with a backyard grill--or half-mad muffin maker to proclaim, “I beat Bobby Flay at makin’ barbeque!” at the heart-warming end of show--before returning to tend their meth labs

And you know it's getting pretty bad when Emeril and Escoffier are appearing in the same sentence and the words 'sucks compared to' do not appear in between.

And apparently this caused some awful hullabaloo when this review came out.

Really? You're going to bitch about how unfair and cruel the review is while you have the nerve to serve 4oz. of cow for 300 dollars?

If I'm going to pay out the ass, make me work for it. Like that the Big Texan steakhouse and its 72 oz. in one hour challenge. Even if you lose it's still 1/8 the cost of that shit. And you still got 68 oz. more beef for your money.

Gordon Ramsey is good, but over here he's completely overexposed, he's even doing adverts for phone companies.

But when he goes off on someone it's always funny.

I do like that Alton Brown is the one person on the Food Network that Bourdain respects.

In fact, Bourdain even named an award after him "The Alton Brown Award". It goes to the person who, while on the food network, manages to not suck.

Also, everyone should read Bourdain's books. They're amazingly entertaining.

Gordon Ramsey's ego is actually a pretty realistic size, given that he's a celebrity chef. There was an episode of Kitchen Nightmares recently where Ramsey explained in detail how badly he had fucked up a restaurant he'd opened in '01, in the hopes that the owner of this restaurant wouldn't make the same mistake.

Sadly, the owner was obscenely rich and delusional and didn't listen and lost buttloads of money.

    The Nasty Bits

    then

    Kitchen Confidential

    then

    A Cook's Tour

There really is no proper order. That isn't the order that they were published in, but it's the order that had me hooked. The Nasty Bits is just a really good read. None of them are too long either.

You don't watch Bourdain for cooking advice. In fact, he doesn't give any.

You watch it to see a pretty cool guy who goes to some amazing places and gets pretty into their culture.

Also, if you're ever flipping through the channels and No Reservations is on, it's worth stopping. There was one where he was in Lebanon and ahd to be evac'd. It was a really really well done show.
