So the only 360 game I have is the Orange Box, and I tend to play Team Fortress 2 a hells lot, primarily because it's the only retail game I have.
So, I'm looking for a recommendation for my second game. The Battlefield Bad Company Demo multiplayer seems to be fun, though I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. And I enjoyed Frontlines: Fuel of War. Any suggestions?
I honestly don't know a single person who regretted their purchase of Call of Duty 4. Almost everyone loves the MP. Those few people who did dislike the MP (some people find it too quick and run and gun ish) almost invariably love the SP. Lots of cool, unique missions (and a mildly interactive cinematic (no spoiler) that was probably the most powerful section from any video game ever), good jumps from one difficulty to another, and the SP missions are replayable in whatever order you'd like.
Seriously, it's an amazing game unless you absolutely despise FPS games.
If you're looking for something different than the typical 360 multiplayer title, Civilization Revolutions (a faster paced version of the classic PC turn based Strategy series) multiplayer is going to rock hard when it comes out next month.
Rock band is good, despite the obvious cost of entry.
Other than that and CoD4, not sure what I can recommend. What I can however urge against:
Chromehounds: Its a great game, and can be fun online, but there's not many playing anymore, and unless they patched it since I last played, they basically had some really unbalanced builds that just weren't fun.
Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit: I do have to preface this by saying I've been playing a lot online. However, I'm mainly just trying to get my money's worth out of it. The online is basically divided by people who spam certain attacks(which, while not that good, can be hard for newer players to go against), and people who cheat(disconnect right before a loss, escaping loss in rank). It can be fun, but you basically hate everyone you play with, and mainly play to kick their asses because you hate them.

Didn't either Gabe or Tycho talk about how they returned it?
* I've been playing so much Grandt Theft Auto 4 deathmatch and team deathmatch that I still haven't completed the singleplayer game.
* Burnout: Paradise has a pretty nifty online mode, and lends itself well to hanging out with friends and just talking nonsense while you do challenges.
* Rainbow Six: Las Vegas has a really good coop mode, for up to 4 people (the sequel cuts that down to 2). Terrorist hunt is pretty fun too, and like GTA4, when you get a team with some good teamwork, the game really clicks and becomes a lot of fun.
* Civilization Revolution is pretty nice. I haven't tried out the multiplayer yet, I'm just really enjoying the game and wanted to mention it anyway.

Ghost Recon 2 Legacy Edition - Enough maps, gadgets, weapons and modes to keep you occupied for a while, provided you find a good server that is.
Burnout Paradise is excellent, and if you pick it up now you've got enough time to get into the meat of the game before all the new free modes come this month.
The CoD4/Halo 3 debate is a bit of an odd one. I prefer Halo simply because I prefer the frantic nature of it. Despite it getting a bad rap for being slow, I get really turned off by the deliberation of CoD, and I sold my copy. Halo just feels more exciting, whereas I can still do well in CoD by just sitting in a building with a sniper - and that's not fun.
Try some Live Arcade stuff. N+ is excellent, Aegis Wing is free and a pretty stock shmup.

My buddy brings his TV over (its a huge tube TV, and this is no simple task) just because this is so amazing that we have to sit in the same room while we ruin people. I have NEVER had so many consistent amazingly hilarious and awesome moments playing any game before, MP or SP.
That game is glorious. We were all into CoD4 before buying GTA4 and havent looked back.
I'm gonna throw another vote for Rainbow Six Vegas. I'm one of those guys that thinks CoD4 and Halo are a little too deathmatchy, I still enjoy a round from time to time. But, R6V is still my all time favorite 360 online game. I haven't bought the second one so I don't know how that is.

Call of Duty 4 and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 aka GRAW 2 are both excellent choices for online MP. The former is more fast-paced, like an action movie, the latter more strategic and deliberate. Halo 3 is also fun if you just want to jump in and have some sci-fi shoot'em'up action.
Virtua Fighter 5 Online: Best gorram fighting game ever made, with online play that's basically flawless once you get outside the awful menu system.
Halo 3: If you liked H2's multiplayer, you'll like H3's. Caveat is that you want to play with PA guys, not random dudes. This holds true for CoD4 as well.
Rock Band: The game is friggin' awesome. No other statements necessary.
CoD4 - great game, fun multiplayer, great replay value
RB6V/RB6V2 - both are great games, and a lot of a fun online with a friend or two
GTA4 - amazing to screw around in SP, and twice the fun screwing around in MP with friends
Honestly, I love Halo 3 for its SP gaming, but I now despise it for its MP. Maybe I've just had too many run ins with screaming little 12 year olds on there but the experience has been ruined for me. =/
Also picked up GRID yesterday......but I can't play it for another two weeks.
Does Call of Duty 4 support split screen online play? How does the 360 version stack up the PC version?
negatory.
I prefer the PC version since you can lean left or right, and generally you can find some server to play on where there are no jackasses. Though if you only play with the PA people I suppose that will be a non issue.
other than those nitpicks the 360 version is pretty spiffy.
Call of Duty 4
Perfect Dark also took up a lot of my time.
I have no idea what keeps people coming back to Gears of War. The host system is broken and hit detection is key in multiplayer (it's a top game single player though).
I would suggest Ikaruga. The fact that you don't really have to move your ass to purchase it is pretty cool already.
I suck at it, but I enjoy the random game with a friend every now and then. It has local and online multiplayer although it's only for 2 player co-op.
I find multiplayer Ikaruga far more frustrating than even the brutal single-player; I've played a few times with a buddy, but invariably I try to play for score/combo, whereas my friend just blows shit up, so unless we stay as the same color we wreck each others' shit far more than any actual enemies could.
Aside from FPSes (which I also highly recommend CoD4, and I'm not even that big of an FPS fan), Heavy Weapon is a shmup with awesome 4p play, and you can never go wrong with Bomberman Live. I think other shmups like Mutant Storm Empire and Assault Heroes 2 have online co-op but I'm not sure.

call of duty 4 online is excellent
I couldn't really go back to halo 3 after playing it for a while
So how about a recommendation that isn't CoD4?

Uno. Uno's definately worth the $5 if you like Uno at all.
