Paul Allen is pretty rad(WWII fighters)[nsf56k-impatientpeople]
So Paul Allen, the rich-ass Microsoft co-founder, has a fascination with aeronautics. He has for years been purchasing & restoring, to full flight capacity, World War II era fighters.
On June 6th, he placed them all at Paine Field in Everett, WA and opened the new Flight Heritage Museum to the public. Today, I was able to get over to the museum and be awed by the wonderfully restored planed that served a large part in creating the world that we live in today.
Excellent pictures. Weird to look at the ones with all the swastikas on them and think that the pilots of these things shot down German planes.
One of the planes was recovered from the site it crashed at in rural Russia and fully restored. Many of these planes are among the very last of their kind that are still intact.
They have video there of one of the US pilots who flew on of the planes he recovered and restored, and in the video he says that the fighter looks prettier than he remembers it.
sometimes I wish I could've been a ww1 fighter pilot then I remember I probably would've died way before being qualified to even be a rear gunner for one.
There's nothing to discuss. The pictures are cool, that's it.
There is full potential for historical discussion.
My wifes grandfather once tried to give me all of his medals from WWII; he feels guilty about having them because he was involved in an incident where he was ordered to fire on what turned out to be friendly troops. I tried to comfort him and refused to accept the medals, telling him that he had earned them and he should keep them while he still lives, but sometimes I wonder if I should have just taken them and kept my mouth shut.

My grandfather (on my moms side) was always absolutely fascinated with WW 1&2, particularly planes and other vehicles, and through him my dad discovered the wonder of The World at War which led to me doing so, it's a great series.

way to suck
There were no V2s and the V1 shots were taken when my wife had the camera.
is awesome
There's also a poster stating when radar was invented but they don't have an old British radar tower outside.
A single-seat helicopter did land right outside the hangar while we were touring though.
