Well i guess this looks like the most setting place for this. I just got back from my mission. I've been away for two years, i havent seen a single movie in that period. The last thing i saw in theatres was Xmen 3, YEA, thats how long ago it is. I figured i could save my self a lot of time by trying to look for movies, and just ask you guys. What movies would you recomend that have come out since Xmen 3 and now.

Go see all the Best Picture noms from last year. Juno, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton, and I think Sweeney Todd was the last one. All of them are excellent.

    Cloverfield is interesting too.

    Yes

    Also what he said

    ratatouille

    Bourne Supremacy

live free or die hard (trust me on this)

    Transformers

ah hell you could also see Pirates 3 if you wanted to and Ocean's 13, but that's up to you
The above ones are needed, including what Alpine said

    Atonement, not Sweeney Todd.

I was not a big fan of either, to be honest. The rest were fucking golden.

Also, Iron Man is a must see, like everyone else is saying.

No, NO. Do not watch Juno. It is the worst movie ever. If there is a hell, that soundtrack is the background music.
    I second Iron man though.

juno was alright but tried way too hard dialogue why. while watching it i could imagine diablo cody sitting there and being oh it will be so ironic and funny when i make juno say this. it was just way too forced and hip at times during the conversations.

Yeah that was my problem with it. It reminds me of a guy I knew in college who intentionally washed a pair of jeans 30 times in a row in an attempt to give them that faded, vintage look. It's still a good movie, it just was overly-calculated.

The soundtrack was awesome though, I don't know what Cliff was talking about. Any soundtrack with 2 of my fave Belle & Sebastian songs is all right by me.

Death at a Funeral was a pretty funny movie. British comedy, so that should tell you quite a bit.

I have to reinforce some other movies that have been mentioned as well:

    No Country For Old Men
    The Departed
    Superbad
    Transformers
    Cloverfield
    I am Legend
    Incredible Hulk

That's all I can think of. Other movies listed here that I did not mention, I haven't seen or didn't think they were worth mentioning, take it for what you will.

My opinion is to avoid Jumper. It was not as good as it looks.

No it was the most painfully unfunny film I've sat through in several years D:

Everything else mentioned has been solid. Like someone else said, the best picture nominees were really good this year. Bourne and Iron Man have been decent action films. I also really enjoyed Eastern Promises, not seen that mentioned yet.

Transformers wasn't a great movie, but it was surprisingly better than I thought it was. Basically it wasn't an Oscar winner, but it was one of those movies that you can watch and enjoy for what it is, if you're one of those people.

Balls of Fury was the same for me. I wasn't expecting a great comedy. I was expecting a comedy that would give you a lot of stupid laughs, just like dodgeball. I would never watch Balls of Fury again.

Walk the Line was a pretty funny movie too. Had some good laughs.

But again, the above three movies are not going to amaze you. They're just going to entertain you for what they are. I wouldn't recommend getting this immediate, but if you are bored and have the chance, I'd say go for it.
