Now before you guys think this is a cell phone thread, it's not, but it starts out as one.
I've never owned a cell phone. I can't stand the stupid things. The fact I can't just buy a phone an hook it up to any service is asinine. I happy without one.
So anyway, my buddy decided to buy a new phone and was selling his old ones. He had a some windows phone with a touch screen that he sold to another friends wife for $100. He also had an older one that he sold to me for $50.
Here it is.
It's a Motorola Q9m. I decided to buy it off of him because I could use it as a PDA and I could write programs for it.
So we go to the Verizon Store, and we do this big phone swap. In the end, my friend hands his phone to me to which the Verizon guy tries to sell me a service. I told him I didn't want anything to do with Verizon, or cell phones in general. He tried to egg me on and I told him to buzz off.
So now I'm at home. I try and call someone just to make sure the phone is off. I get a message that the account is invalid. So I go about exploring the functions.
I log onto IE and start browsing the web.... This is where it gets awesome.
I try and log into my wireless router via the phone to see what the MAC address the phone has, but I find that I can't log in. I sit at my desktop and log in there, look at my logs and discover I have no devices on my wireless...
Oh my god! They never turned off the Verizon internet... AWESOME!
I figure they are going to figure it out sooner or later, So I guess enjoy it will I can huh? Is it like DSL where it takes about a week to deprovision or something?

Shiiiit, why not? Is it some americaland kind of thing? Hell here, even the iphone is going to have to be available on every network, woohoo strict retail laws.
the iPhone is only going to be available on Rogers and Fido in Canada
i'm not sure that's true
How will they charge him? It's not his phone anymore. How would they even know it was his phone? No phone number.
edit: they'll charge him in rape dollars
I know its totally out of left field
But if i'd known how much i'd cause that kind of confusion i'd have picked another username
If the phone receives an internet signal, the MSID is active somewhere in Verizon's system. The MSID is attached to his account.
So why not make a mention of where the hell you live besides land of free cell phones when you make a comment like that?
Because it honestly just skipped my mind
Anyway its belgium
Belgium
what is that shit
fuckin
chocolate shit
and beer and hells of pedophiles
but what, americans can't get a phone without a plan attached?
that pretty shitty
How do you take out the username/password or whatever it uses? I can't see anything in the settings.
Should I format the phone?
In America, phone providers are allowed to lock their phones onto a particular network. The GSM providers like AT&T and T-Mobile are more open than the CDMA providers though.
although i had a look on the site and it said you can only get it from 2 particular phone companies
but most likely there will be an option to buy it outright
i think its law
i think even on a contract they arent allowed to lock the phone for more than a few months
so you just go out and buy any phone you want and throw in whatever sim card you got sitting around
